Introductions - What's up folks?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey everyone, I'm from Raleigh NC, but I'm in Houston TX for the summer doing an internship. I just started road biking about 1 month ago, but I have been commuting to school several miles from my house on my mountain bike along w/weekend trail rides for about 7 or 8 months. I came to texas with the intention of buying a road bike and shipping it back at the end of the summer, and I ended up getting a 2005 Cannondale R500 triple. The only thing I have added aftermarket has been a set of aero bars and a second water bottle cage...whoopee!. My mountain bike is a 2005 Raleigh M50 DX. I have had that for about 3 or 4 months; had a really crappy huffy alumina before that. Since I got the Raleigh (yes, I live in Raleigh and ride a Raleigh!) I have really gotten into biking for fitness, and had done so even more since I got my road bike. I would eventually like to do a triathlon, but for now I am focusing on road biking. Anyways, I have been reading the bikeforums.net archives for about a month and finally decided to join. I hope I can contribute some to this great community. Thanks!

Welcome!! I get down to Houston occasionally. How's the ridiing down there? Seems kind of busy to me. My first "ten speed" was an old Raleigh and you could not get my Cannondale Moutain Bike away from me. Enjoy your rides and be safe down there.

There are quite a few pretty nice paved trails here for road biking. I see people alone and in groups riding down a busy, narrow 2 lane road by where I am staying, but I tend to go to either bush park or terry hershey park (which is really nice; this gives you some idea (http://www.houstonhappyhikers.org/photos/0406-HersheyPark/photoHersheyJUN04.htm) ) . There is a big park downtown, memorial park, that I will try this weekend. Just too hot the past week to do any long rides (like 99 deg. F, 95% humidity!). Thanks for the welcome!
