Yet Another Newbie.

Hi everyone, just thought I'd check out this forum. I am just getting back into cycling, I used to do a fair bit while I was in school. Being a little older now and not quite as indestructible as I was when I was 21 I am noticing that my knees are taking a bit of a beating so I'm here to look for training tips, equipment advise and any other pearls of wisdom that the 30 something crowd has to offer.

Personally I am 29 and I have been trying to get back into shape over the past six months. I have changed my diet, started exercising, and dropped almost 30 lbs in that time.

Hi Sprockets and welcome to the forum.

From what I read here and in other forums and cycling sites, unless you have other medical problems with your knees, it is usually seat height and the front to back positioning of your seat which makes a big difference to your knees.

You want just a slight knee bend at the bottom of your peddle stroke and the line from the little bump under your kneecap to be over the middle of the pedal axle.

It is also said that "spinning" is less troublesome to the knees than hammering in a hard gear.

Again, welcome and have fun. Take care of those knees.

No your not to old to cycle, I cycle quite a bit an I am in the 40 something crowd!!!
The knee problem try different seat adjustments up,down , forward and back.
I played around with my seat until I found a spot that felt better on the longer rides.
