Is painting aluminum any different from painting steel?

I have a road frame with some rough patches (no cracks). It's plain black, so my plan is:
*smooth out the bad spots with sandpaper
*shoot a coat of rustoleum primer over the rough spots
*shoot a coat of rustoleum black
*wait 24 hours, clean frame, dry, and then clear coat the whole thing

Anyone have any special tips for Al that I should know?

If your frame is Al I don't think you should have rough spots. You could leave the Al bare if you want.

As with any paint job clean the bare metal very well or your primer will not hold or will start to flake off sooner then later.
