Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Decal decoding

Maybe this belongs in the track bikes forum but here goes: What do the colored bands mean that I see on so many track/fixed gear bikes? You know, its a rainbow-like band of red, black, yellow, green, and blue and I have seen it on a lot of older bikes and more recently on the Bianchi Pistas. Thanks!

I knew the bands were for a world championship, but does the framebuilder earn the right to put those bands on any kind of frame sold under its name? IOW, say, Bianchi earns a championship in the road race- why are the bands on the Pista legit? And why is the framebuilder allowed to continue using the bands in the paint scheme even after that championship has been lost to another manufacturer?

You'd think that bands would be allowed only on the paint scheme of frames designed/built for that event, and only on frames built during the season that said framebuilder is actually the reigning champion. The link was very informational, but didn't clear any of this up for me.

my guess is that a frame builder can do whatever the hell he wants to do to his bike, so long as it isnt entered in that race.

My question dealt with the use of a reasonable standard for displaying what is essentially a championship crown or belt, rather than a ring or medal. I know the UCI or whoever cannot prevent a framebuilder from doing whatever the hell he wants to do to his frame- it's what he should do that I was pointing out.

B17- campy, lemond, bianchi, catlike, nike and plenty of others have integrated champ stripes into the design & marketing their equipment... it's a recognizable seal of achievement I suppose. Can't complain though, as plenty of fixed riders flaunt...

Some companies feature the champion rainbow more prominently than others. I figure a company like Campagnolo has earned the right to use them in big bold ways given how many people ride Campy to championships. Others like Windsor should use them a little more subdued, sort of like the jersey versus arm band thing.
