ok...so i want to spend less than $100.....is the Poverty P.O.W. a good buy or no...it looks really good..and is there any way to buy like a hop-up kit for it...just like better sealed bearings or something....lol.....it looks really good...the arms look like the Profile BMX ones.....but i am just wondering if it is reliable and a good buy....

Just save up fro Profiles or Odysseys. You won't regret it, especially with their warranties (compared to the lack of Poverty/Dan's warranty).

its an ok buy, but if you have the money its worth it to go with some Profiles or Odysseys becuase of warranty...like Beerman said...
also look at Primo Cranks, there really nice, i dont know why everyone bashes them...

Anything poverty sucks. profile or the 41 thermal.48 spline cranks are the best, except WTP. Primo sucks because that square spindle strips too easily.

The square spindle strips easily? Do you have any idea what the hell you're talking about? It's practically impossible to round out the spindle on Powerbites.

That's why you keep them tight, smart guy.

Profile cranks are made in the US, and Odyssey has a helluva lot better quality control than Dan's Competition (Poverty) does. And, for the record, Poverty parts are made in Taiwan, not China (although, technically, Taiwan is the Republic of China, as compared to the mainland being the People's Republic of China, but I highly doubt that you knew that anyway).

ok..well i am now thinking about Mosh....any thoughts on them>??

CMcMahon

I wasn't even aware that Mosh even made cranks, but I do know that the reputation of their products isn't exactly the best.

harris_co
07-02-05, 08:11 AM
i did know that..but the better stuff is made in Taiwan, lol,,,no saying much...mosh is good(made by Gaint) if ur on a budget get the POW if not get profiles!

If the bolts spontaneously get loose, the spindle strips

harris_co
07-02-05, 10:36 AM
but thats why you keep them tight...no bolt should come loose on a crank unless its a POS

Poverty SUCKS ASS. Poverty is for bikers with little to no budget. I'd agree with beerman, Go for the Odyssey. I myself have DK Chop sticks and they're freakin' awesome, but go with odyssey.

That's a stupid argument. The side bolts on Profiles and Odyssey cranks comes a bit loose after a few months of riding, causing the infamous Profile wobble. Does that make them POSes, too?

i'm going to get the Poverty....it just seems that some people don't understand that money IS an issue....if i had the 150 bucks i WOULD get Profiles....DUH.....i said in the first sentence of this thread...(ok...so i want to spend less than $100.....)....yes i want the profiles...but no i don't want to spend more than 100....but thankyou Harris Co

Profiles would be the best option because of there light, durable structure plus have a lifetime warranty and will out last POWs. Odyssey 41 Thermals are very durable and are also light.
Poverty P.O.W. = $84.99; Profile BMX=$134.99; Profile Deluxe=$144.99 (Recommended);
Odyssey 41 Thermal=$144.99 (Good).
[Prices are from Danscomp.com]

That's awful! Those poor kids with stripped square tapers and wobbly Profiles. Someone should buy them each a can of Polylube and a torque wrench for Christmas. They can put it in the toolbox right next to the hammer and adjustable crescent wrench.

[snip] Poverty is for bikers with little to no budget. [snip]

He's on a budget, got it?

Now, to the OP. You asked "To buy or not to buy". Many people have told you not to buy, and why. Personally, I don't listen to advice that goes something along the lines of "Don't get those, buy the ones I have..." What you should get out of this is that you can buy them if you want, but you're probably better off saving some money and getting the better set, which will last nearly forever and not give you any grief. At least when you do part with your money, you'll be making a somewhat informed decision. You may save a few dollars now, but it may cost you more later.

Here's my opinion on the matter: you're not going to find any good cranks for under $100, so wash some cars, mow some lawns, or clean some windows and get something that'll last.

I guess robbing gas stations and liquor stores has gone out of fashion with kids these days. :(

You won't be saying that when those Kaohsiung Specials snap at the spindle boss and impale your leg.

Kaohsiung? I wonder if all that aluminum we ship there from work ends up as cheap bike parts. I was stoked to find out Bugatti is one of our customers. Of course, they'll never sell a car in Australia.
