For a year or so now, I've wanted to build a no suspension mountain bike (with hybrid 700 x 35c tires), and a singlespeed/fixed gear flip flop hub at the back, with traditional geometry.
The bike would be a fantastic bike with plenty of speed, no suspension absorbing your effort, and a worthy trail bike, a task my roadie is just a bit too fragile to handle, and I would also use the fixed gear for training my pedal stroke at the local velodrome.
Problem is, I don't know where to start! Should I ask the shop to build it all for me (I know a few shops could do it), but would that be too expensive? Should I look part by part, but I think that will be way too hard because many of the parts would be too rare on ebay. I'm a very tall guy, so a 60cm frame isn't the easiest to find either.
What suggestions to people have?
