Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Fixie (and me) on the radio

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
A month and half ago, I was interviewed for a radio piece for WNYC/Public Radio's Studio 360 about fixed gear bikes.
This weekend, Kurt Andersen hosts yet another show which will be broadcast all over the nation in cities except ironically Chicago where it was produced and where I live.
Fortunately, there's online radio!
In the lower right, Design for the Real World - thankfully they linked good ol' Sheldon.

Hope I did you all good and proud.

i think you did very well. I am proud. If you could have thrown in something like "its not for everyone, especially you dirty hipsters" or something, that might have been cool. But you kept it serious and not about some trend, which is awesome.
my bike has ten gears in the back.

Is it strange to hear your voice recorded?
Is it strange to hear your voice recorded?
Yes, very much so. Oddly enough, I thought I sounded better than I expected, which is saying a lot since I think I sound horrible.
The actual interview was well over an hour. There was a lot more stuff in there and they wanted to have a lot of material to work with. There were a few "takes" where during the course of something I'd lose my thought pattern and do it again. I also had to be very explicit about what I was talking about since it's a monologue and you don't hear the interviewer ask me the questions so it's made to sound like I'm just rambling on.
It turned out really well actually since I thought Jonathan Menjivar (the producer/interviewer) pieced over an hour's worth of stuff into 3 minutes and yet managed to produce something that covers fixed gear bikes pretty well I think.

Send Phil Wood a note about the new visibility of the delicious, cotton-candied metal adorning studio360's website; perhaps a small appreciative haiku too:
Circular journey,
to the source we all return,
pink hubs get me there

absntr -- did i detect an accent? if so, what? Pardon my cornfed white boy lack of cultural knowledge.

I'm a bit of an odd one:
First 10 years of my life - London, UK
The next 10 years - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
And the last 7 - Chicago, USA
My accent/voice is a mish-mash of things. When I'm in the UK, I tend to pick up that accent more again and likewise when I'm back in Kuala Lumpur and here as well. I've had to adapt a lot over the years. I still say things oddly (at least for people Stateside but not for the brits) too - I'll say "lift" instead of elevator, "queue" instead of line and pronounce Saturday as "Satday" and of course I spell all my words with "ou" - colour, honour, favourite.

Well done Naz! Seriously, I want to hear Garrison Keillor or This American Life wax about a fixed gear now. They had Neu! playing in the background!

Just as a note of cross promotion. I worked on the game Psychonauts which is also featured on that same page. Our leader Tim is usually pretty funny in interviews, too.

Well done! I am sure that was not easy to do, but you well represented this forum.
And as an oldster, it was great to hear the Flying Burrito Brothers

Unfortunately, there is not. I think it'd sound sort of odd on its own as so -- the full effect being lost in transcription.

Picked up the program as I headed across Nebraska to my sisters place. Ended up riding in the Sand Hills and wishing for some nice flat roads.
