It all breaks bubble boy. I broke my Merlin Ti frame back in 1996. Not for nothing, but if friggin TITANIUM can detonate, anything can, and will.

All that being said, it's awfully hard to kill a Cdale. But you're all welcome to try.

You silly weenies. Do you really think you'll ride SO hard, and SO much, that you'll actually BREAK a friggin racing bicycle if you don't crash it into an immovable object like a post or a tree? Don't hold your breath. I did it, but then of course, I'm Pcad. I ride so much that nothing can really withstand my mileage. But you see, I don't CARE. Because if my bike crap breaks, it's an excuse to buy MORE BIKE CRAP. Win/win.

Cannondale WILL refuse to honour their frame warranty due to 'fatigue'. I am currently battling with them over my 5-year-old Scalpel (yes, a mountain bike). It's made from the Optimo tubing and is slightly more advanced than a CADD 5 frame. It had the downtube snap at the waterbottle braze-on (a clear cose fo a defect too). So, If you buy a Cannodale, and the frame breaks after a few years from routine riding, don't expect Cannodale to help you out.

Yes, the old Cannondales will last a long time, in addition the the Scalpel, I have a '96 Delta V (not to be confused with the killer V), it's still strong a stiff after a lot of good rides.

Now, as for the fram trade-in program, it's not much of a deal. For example, a 2008 Scalpel frame retails for $2100, with a trade-in, it's $1600, that's not the kind of money I just have lying around to pay a company that won't honour it's warranty when the new frame breaks in five years.
