There's a parade to bring awareness to non-oil transportation starting in Volunteer Park on Sunday, July 3 at 11:30. Route goes through Cappy Hill and downtown, then a party and speakers back in Volunteer Park. Biodiesel cars, bikes, peds all welcome!

I hadn't heard of it . . . I will have to check it out. Thanks for the info. Do you know if it is an "official" parade with permits and law enforcement blessing ( unlike Critical Mass ) ?

I only heard of it through the Cascade Bike Club email newsletter. If they're endorsing it, then it must be pretty official. ;) I don't know anything other than what's on the parade org's website.

I notice METRO is one of the sponsers so at least part of the county government is endorsing it. I think I will have to come down and peddle with them.

YEEAAAH!!! I wish they had that in CA, because that's the exact day I have scheduled to put some serious miles on the SUV.

(Have to do a swapmeet which I may or may not continue to do when car-free, and plan to talk to some dealerships about selling the sucker too.)

I'm actually looking at selling it back to the dealer (less hassle, chance of fraud, and probably a better price than selling it private party) and have been busting my butt to get enough in the bank to pay in the difference between what I owe and what they'll give me. I'm willing to take quite a "hit" to get rid of the thing now, I think gas is going to be a dollar higher each summer.

That's exactly what you'll do if you sell to a dealer: take quite a hit. I'm not sure what your car experience is, but selling to a dealer is the WORST thing you can do in terms of what you'll get for it. Remember, dealers don't stay in business by buying your car at close to it's value and then trying to resell it at close to its value on the open market. They'll buy it at wholesale - which is up to several thousand less than you could sell it for yourself. Do yourself a favor by doing some research (www.kbb.com, www.edmunds.com) before walking into a dealership with a huge "SUCKER" sign on your forehead.

If you're willing to take something less than retail (which you obviously are since you're considering letting a dealer steal it), you can move it very quickly on ebay or through the local paper. Just make sure you have cash in hand before you transfer the title; a certified check. No money orders, no personal checks. Ideally, since someone else will probably need a load for it, a certified check from the bank (rather than a personal check certified by the bank) as proceeds from a loan.

Hey, Seattlites, how did it go?

It was a bit lame. The "parade" consisted of about 15-20 cars with signs promoting the use of biodiesel, accompanied by about the same number of bikers. They drove slowly around the city honking their horns, causing traffic jams and pi$$ing people off. I did not ride with them, but I crossed their path a few times, and I heard pedestrians and drivers asking "What is all of that about ?" I don't think much thought or planning went in to this.
