So sad... I was in shock when I was watching BET, and all of a sudden, the words scrolled across the screen. They were saying he was doing better after the stroke he had. :(

We are going to miss him but what were you doing watching BET?
Watching some kind of tribute concert to Gladys Night and the Pips.

Okay that sounds decent.
I have not watched BET since Tavis left (I don't own a TV) and I also heard that BET no longer has a "News Hour". More airtime for videos and infomercials.
It's an infomercial driven channel for sure. But I still like watching "Soul Food" and "Girlfriends". That's about it. I was just turning the channels and saw the tribute, and boy did it bring back memories of growing up.
Tavis leaving was a damn shame and the straw that broke the camel's back.

The entire network is a damn shame.
African Americans should have protested against BET long ago and if it was not owned by Robert Johnson at the time, Al Sharpton and everyone else would have called for a boycott.
Are you guys talking about Tavis Smiley? I just started hearing him on NPR and have now seen his show on PBS too. He is good, has an excellent voice. I wish he would ask tougher questions sometimes though.
I agree that Tavis does ask "softball" questions at times.
He is not one one of my favorite talk show hosts. But there aren't many serious/political African American talk shows (e.g., Tavis, Tony Brown, Gill Noble and The American Black Forum).
It is very sad that Luther Vandross has passed away. He will be greatly missed and he was so young. May he rest in peace.
