let me give a little background first, I come from a "big" family. As in the unhealthy big . At age 21 I weighed 365lbs in January..I dont know why but in early January of this year ('05) I was eating from a 5lb bag of gummi bears hereby refered to as devil babies and the light clicked in my head. "I am F*&#%^$ killing myself" I stopped eating devil babiesright then and walked into my kitchen and threw everything unhealthy away or brought it to work for the women folks.

Well since then I started riding again that week in fact, and started to modify my lifestyle and eating habits. I weighed this evening and came in at 263.2 lbs. 101.8 lbs of weight loss since January ! I have been to my doctor a few times since this started and he has stated that what I am doing is perfectly healthy and as long as my body lets it happen then let it go.

I gave up all soda and watch my intake of salt, sugars, and white carbohydrates. If there is something I want I will eat it, cookies, ice cream doesnt matter but only 1 cookie or a couple bites of whatever to get the craving gone. And since eating healthy I have very little desire for any of this at all anyways.

Typical day of food for those interested.
Breakfast:
Yogurt and 1 piece of any fruit

Lunch:
Chicken or any type of lean meat
As much veggies as you want.

Dinner (NEVER after 7:30pm):
Chicken or any type of lean meat
As much veggies as you want.

Congratulations!

Make sure you have a plan that you can follow the rest of your life to keep it off. Ya can't let go, because itis all too easy to fall back on old habits.

Keep up the good work!

That's really awesome. Pat yourself on the back! I know it's sure not easy and requires a LOT of discipline. I am about 70lbs over the weight I'd like to be (180, at 250 now, was 269 in mid-May).

Whte carbs are refined carbs... stuff like white bread (for instance).

And congrats on your weight loss! Now, just remember- it's a lifestyle adjustment, and you'll keep that weight off for good.

You ROCK! I've lost about 85 pounds doing almost the exact same routine. The diet that I'm following is called sugar busters. I also, only drink water, don't eat after 8pm and I've added Yoga to the routine, which has helped immensely! Oh, and of course there's the 100-150 miles per week on the bike.

CONGRATS!!!!

Wow, awesome job! Just keep seeing the doctor and make sure you stay healthy - that's fast weight loss, but it sounds like you're doing a good job. As long as the doc says go for it, keep it up and congratulations!

You've lost 100 lbs since January? That's . . . . let's see here. . . . six months, equals roughly 24 weeks . . . . 100/24= roughly 4.15 lbs per week!

You averaged four pounds per week! That's HUGE! I too hope it was healthy, but everyone's body is different and some of us can make changes that fast without ill effect.

I'm just starting to cycle, and I sure hope it has the same effect on me that it did on you.

awesome job !!! i love my weight loss also! The body wil sleep and not break down foods as quickly in rest. Thus absorbing more bad stuff!

wow! what a great story! thanks for sharing; i am sure that you have inspired more people than you will ever realize. i am especially impressed that you made the determination to change your habits, get active and be healthy. with all the fad diets and magic pills and weight-loss surgery out there, too many people have taken the easy way out with poor lasting results. keep up the good work!

I could cut the chops but if I did it would make me to aero dynamic and thus impede my "wind resistance" training.

Devil babies. :roflmao:

A coworker lost weight about as fast as you did, but he went the surgery route and has to be extremely careful the rest of his life. Another lady got the surgery, but lost control and died.

Many kudos for going au natural. That's Perrier water in the mugs.

Hal, My logical thinking says that if someone would eat the way people are forced to eat after a bariatric surgery they would lose the same weight. Thus I avoided complicated surgery.

And whats the deal with Perrier ? Beer is only high quality water with color.:;): Doesnt hurt to have a pint or 4 once in a while.

Yeah, it's a mighty drastic way to over ride their willpower. It wouldn't be so bad if gaining the weight back was the worst thing they had to be concerned about.
How is your family reacting? Are they ticked because they can't blame genetics (if they ever did) for the "family curse", or inspired?

The Perrier is there because this is the health forum. If you had posted in the fixie forum, it would still be beer and there would be a shot glass clinking in the bottom of the mugs. :p

My family is proud. Well most of them. My dad lost 80 lbs over 2.5 - 3 yrs because his wife is a very health concious women. But he was big. Not anymore. Mom on the other hand is still big and realizes now that its up to her and not doctors etc when she loses her weight. My aunt on the other hand in mad as hell, she swears up and down she wants to lose weight (i live next door to her) so I offered to clean out her kitchen and go shopping with her. You would have though I was going to take her dog and eat him. She freaked and gets mad whenever she asks me to help and I say that I will but she doesnt want to do it my way. Hmm, whatever floats the boat. I am more than willing to help anyone with there weight loss goals but they have to really desire it within themselves or it will never work.

If it's the last 20 pounds you want to lose, you shouldn't be surprised that it's harder to do. Big fat guys like us can take off 90-100 lbs in a relatively short time because our bodies don't really care that much about retaining that fat. I've still got another hundred pounds or so of excess fat to lose, so no big deal for the body to lose that first 100.

Nice sleeve Tatt2Rider. You know, another benefit to loosing the weight is that you'll have less surface area to cover when you start working on the other arm. That means less sessions needed and more $$ saved which could also mean more ink work! That s**t can get really expensive. I have invested waaaaay too much cash in my sleeves. Luckily, the wifey has more tats than me so I don't have to hear her complain about the amount of cash spent on ink. :D

Tatt: I'm kind of in the same boat as you... though fortunately I'm only about 80 pounds overweight (yeah right... ONLY!). I just started riding again today and was wondering how many miles you were able to put in when you first started? I put in 6 today and was pretty disappointed after reading how many miles everyone else here puts in. In my defence, it was a very hilly route, but nowhere near the 20+ everyone else does regularly.

Keep up the great work... You are truly an inspiration to all of us full figured guys out here!

Man...dont let these others that ride 20 or so miles at a time get you down. I ride about 10 mile most mornings (Mon-Fri), and on the weekends, I try to put in at least 50-75 (for sat/sun). When I started riding about 6 weeks ago, I just told myself that I was gonna do this, and I started at my 10 mile route. I have lost about 10-15 lbs since then.
