COSTCO's comfort bike

There's a coupon out which lets you buy their comfort bike for $140. I saw it in the warehouse, looks ok to me, for what it's meant to do... casual slow riding. Seems like a good value. COSTCO is very good about taking something back if it isn't to your liking.

I agree that's a lot of bike for the price.
I want to hear real opinion from people actually ride it regularly.

You'd have to treat it with caution. For one -- it appears to be a noname bike. Secondly -- what materials was it made of? Thirdly -- who in Costco will assemble and adjust the bike, and how will it be maintained by them on an ongoing basis?

When you take a $140 Costco bike, and add about $40 for a proper LBS tuneup, you are in the $200 range. This is within shouting distance of the entry level LBS bikes... you may even score a good second-hand bike for around that.

I know whereof I speak, owning both a Walmart Roadmaster Mt Fury and a better LBS bike. I still hang on to the Roadmaster because I can afford to take risks with it that I wouldn't with my real bike -- such as throwing it on a boat, using it in bad weather, etc.

Not everybody needs a bike that Lance would ride.

Is it the Motive comfort bike? If so, I had one. It was ok for riding around the neighborhood but, it weighed a ton and the shifters were pretty rough. It seemed more like the quality of a kid's bike. I think you'd be better off buying a low end name brand bike from the LBS.

hehe, totally agree man. I love Costco, I buy most of my household stuff there, but I wouldn't buy a bike. I've seen them trying to put them together. Just cuz you can run a forklift, doesn't mean you know bikes.

Love those sausages and pizza too. Would pass on the bike though....
