Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hmmmm...... tips on BMX racing.... First, you should get on your bike and pedal. Also, if there's a turn, you should lean to make your bike get around the corner. OMFG JUST GO OUT AND RACE!!!! Nobody gave you tips on how to ride a bike, did they?!?!?!

yes, as a matter of fact they did.
I hear speed is pretty key. Works for me.
Were you just bored, and decided to start a bunch of new threads?

1. go to your local track
2. have proper gear (helmet, longsleeves, longpants and gloves and bike of course)
3. pay or do whatever you have to do to ride
4. go to the gate...
5. get in the gate...
6. "track stand" while waiting for the gate to drop
7. when the gate drops, pedal your balls out of the first straight.
8. hit the first jump
9. pedal your balls through the rest of the track...
10. beat little 5 year-olds and feel good about yourself
11. repeat as needed.

Yeah, what he said. I don't know where it fits in there, but I recall my wife uttering the words "Don't crash" more than once. Words of wisdom like that shouldn't be taken lightly. Did I mention she has a race bike too?

there are requirements for your bike too.
axles cant stick out like 3/8"
must have at least ONE handbrake
must have long pants/shirt/full face helmet
bars cant be wider than like 28" or somthing
and theres more but since i dont race i dont know them...
I had to peel off the little sticker that said the bike was not for racing.

That was on my Haro cruiser. It's a race bike, but the bike shop puts them on all their bikes for liability reasons.

Dude, did you get wasted by a bunch of guys with SPDs? You seem awful butt-hurt about it.

Clipping in isn't "cheating", it's just ********. Greg Romero, and Cecil Johns (RIP) didn't rock the clips or get on the sauce, so neither should you.
Is chewing a wad of Jolt gum between races cheating?

Clips f**king suck.

So much anger towards pedals. I've never heard bad things from people that use them, only from those that couldn't adjust, or don't have the extra cash. Which are you?

I'm the person who can't adjust. When I'm on the track I like to do a little freestyle while I'm at it. Thats why I don't use them.

That doesn't make them bad. Just not suitable for your style.
And they're not cheating, as it seems to be a pretty level field in racing - everyone's clipped in.

its just not B.M.X they suck, DUDE

well i dont bmx race but i will say this: i dont want to see the person that comes down wrong off a jump, and is still cliped.
Properly adjusted pedals release on impact, and anyone who's used them for any length of time would have been out before the impact. The guy in the photo must have them too tight, or he's got the wrong cleats, as most people would have trouble getting them to hold that tight in the first place.

Yeah, tell that to a roadie, trackie or XC guy. Then get out your watch and time how long they laugh at you. The days of triple traps and Vans low-tops are over, bud. Get some SPDs or get dusted.

Go out to the Santa Clara PAL track and watch Nick Dawg dust all the clipped-in, leather-wearing racer kids on a freestyle bike with 30-11 gearing and a Wellgo MG-1s, 'Snazz.
He's got the NorCal Pull going on, that's for sure. First place in pro at the most recent NorCal Ramps and Ramp Rats skatepark comps, too.

And when roadies first discovered clipless there were similar arguments. Then good riders realized they could be *better* if they were using the right technology. Nick Dawg is obviously just a better rider, and clipless pedals don't give his competition enough of an advantage to catch him. All things being equal, clipless gives you a more efficient and powerful stroke. That argument is LONG dead.
I should go to the track though, it's almost within sight of my house. Isn't the NBL Worlds gonna be at the Pavilion this year?

Clipped pedals are for ****. And anyone who can race with a freestyle bike and win is badass.
Clipped pedals are for ****.
So you're saving up for a set? Never mind that you've just posted one of the most ridiculous comments ever.
