hey all,
newbie to this board. appreciate any advice you may have. just got a new dahon helios sl folding bike & am planning on swapping out straight bars for a tt / bullhorn bar (to get more reach & drop as stem is not adjustable & seat is good where it is).
this is my 1st time setting up bullhorns & need some advice.
1. can I just use an indexed brake/shifter combo like an ultegra flight deck?
2. if not, I'm assuming I'd use bar end shifters, but then where do the brakes go (& what is available)?
3. has anyone tried using shimano shifters w. sram derailleurs?

***fwiw, there is no front derailleur. bike is only 9 spd.

thanks,
al.

You may have a hard time mounting regular road brakes on the bars unless you use chopped drop bars. I have three bikes setup with bullhorn bars and all have bar end brake levers. Two have stem mounted shifters and the other has thumb shifters mounted on the tops.

Another option is to use cyclocross levers by themselves and bar end shifters.

I have read that no Shimano shifter will work with a SRAM derailleur because they need a 1:1 cable pull ratio and Shimano uses 2:1.
