... without handlebar tape or grips... I'm gonna puke!!!

I think people who ride with their hands on the bare bars are... are... what are they? Too cool to spring $15 for handlebar tape???

Just think of how slippery that sh*t gets when they start sweating. Oh well, another hipster running into a car.

I just roll on a hubs. I mounted them deep in my shoes so they look real minimal.

i know a messenger who rode steel drops w/o tape for years, and the sweat and oil from his hands actually wore away the chrome!

I don't think he ever had a plm with slipping, and he rode brakeless

I run mine without cranks.....and bar tape. My bike is heavy enough without the added weight of bar tape.

Actually I just built mine up and I am looking for a "marble" of blue/grey/black or white cork but having a hard time finding it. And since I am having a bit of "imperfect" chainline trouble at the moment I am working on that. But once thats fixed I promise to get my cork on!!!

I say get some grips that slip over the bar-ends and that's it.

If you like screwing with bar tape every 1-2 months don't stop there. Get some shifters too with cables to slip underneath the tape (CAMPY). How about the new 12 speed cassette coming out. Electric derailleurs? Batteries to power them?

Fixies don't need bar tape. That's one reason I want one- no need for it anymore to hold cables in. Cork tape is especially a PIA (rips easy and looks like sh1t after 1-2 months if you ride everyday)

I rode without bar tape on steel bars for a bit, but I got sick of the HUGE callouses (sp?) that I got on my hands. I use vetta cloth tape now and the callouses are smaller...

I run mine without a bike. I just move my legs in front of each other until my feet hit the ground. Its really light and easy to maintain. No brakes, no cables, its awesome.

I might have to stop though because I see so many hipsters also riding bikeless. I mean, I just did it to get around, get too and from work, you know? But now, its like this big trend. I mean, goddamn, I even saw a guy riding bikeless in a commercial today.

For everybody else I got some cushy gel saddles for you too. A little horn to place next to your handlebar basket so you don't crash either.

Forget about spending $15 for handlebar tape. Cinelli cork tape is crap anyway. I used it for almost a year and it always went ****ty quick.

This stuff http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=129&subcategory=1174&brand=&sku=2214&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename= feels better (softer, better texture) and it is much more durable anyway. I get it for $3.50 on sale at Nashbar with 20% off coupon.

Unfortunately, I also ordered there more expensive cork tape. IF I could return it for more of this stuff I would, but the shipping would cancel out the benefit (I think)

P.S. Whoever was looking for purple marble they have that color in this tape.

hey, don't knock those Campy ergos, 12 speed cassettes and electric derailleurs... I don't know about all that ****. but ergo shifters are rad on my Pinarello. and the tennis racket style bar tape is pretty, but I just put some of that cinelli gel tape on a friends bike, and it's awesome. totally plush.

I have been riding black cinelli cork tape for a month now and I have really been into it. I previously had that black crap that is weaved like carbon fiber. It was not so plush.

oh please... i've been riding without tape/grips on and off for the past couple of years and haven't had any problems. if you've got a sweaty hand problem wear gloves. i recently took the cloth tape on my bars because they were uncomfortable. hipster blah blah blah... whatever.

The reason I used to buy it was because it's the #1 brand (marketing got me). The reality is compared to the cheap stuff I have been buying is that it rips easier, loses it's tension easier after I've been riding a while. It's not particularly soft either. The cheap stuff has a better feel to it. Go figure.

I just think it is "traditional" and that is why it sells.

Wow, all this about bar tape.

Steel track drops w/o tape look pretty. If you're fine with no tape, great. I recently put some of the italian tennis-raquet-type tape on my bars and my wrists and elbows couldn't be happier. That little bit of padding is more comfortable for me. The more comfortable you are, the more you can ride.

Isn't the beauty of a fixie that it can be manifested in so many forms? moustache, bullhorn, drop, steel, Al, Carbon, Ti, everyones gotta have a preference i spoze right? for me, Deda silver "carbon" bar tape works just great. as far as cork goes, i used the same set of that for nearly 2 and a half years without needing a change...over 10000 miles of training and racing....so thats where my vote goes...

You guys are so tough.

I got 1/2 a bar's worth of old grab-ons that someone left on some used handlebars (along with a greasy old dia-compe lever). I put one on each side, on the top! I must look like a senior citizen. Grab ons rule! Soft n' foamy. Have fun kids

When I rode dirt drops offroad, our little shop trick was grabons covered with a layer of nice cloth tape. We got all the senior citizen squeeziness, but without the embarassing foam look. For some reason that mattered at the time.

j-b, that is a smashing idea. I was wondering how to get some color on there, and the benotto stuff looked like it would slide right off. the foam has a nice tenacious grip that I enjoy. so we'll just have to see about that.

I for one like the cinelli tape because it allows my hands to breath, the foamy stuff doesn't feel so good when it gets all sweaty.

ok so nashbar has 'handlebar pads' that you put under the tape for extra-cushiness. this could be another option weed eater.
any thoughts on 'track grips'? ive never used them. are they comfy? dont look like it.

ive run them bare (top bare.. bottom keirin-taped) and also full double-wrapped (cork on cloth)..

i actually dont notice a difference in comfort and the bare 'bars never slipped. the thick steel cinelli bars actually felt very nice raw.. just wrapped them because i was bored. next time im bored i may remove the wrap....

bah! wrong! everything needs to be lugged steel with bare track drops and a stem with a ridiculous drop. if your bike doesn't look like this, then you are obviously wrong and don't belong here.
