Bicycle Mechanics - Stuck - cable routing question

Hi there,

I am building up a bike as a project (read: I don't really know what I am doing) and have come across a bit of a problem: The frame has head tube mounted gear cable stops, and it seems that any way I lay the cables, the front brake is going to foul the gear cables - see picture.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. It is a bit of a cheapo frame but it must have been designed to work somehow. Any help would be much appreciated.

cheers.Hook up the brake cable and adjust the calipers.the picture will likely get clearer,but regardless, there will likely be some interference that does not create a real issue.

What shifters are you using? Are they STIs where the shift cable runs away from the handlebars, or are they Ergos or barends where the cable runs along the bar? If the latter, you might want to try going to a "criss-cross" cable routing. I'll use the right/rear shifter as an example. You run the cable along the bar like normal, but then instead of going to the right cable stop on the frame, you run it to the left one. Then from that cable stop, you cross it underneath the downtube to go to the normal spot on the bottom bracket cable guide. This might or might not help you, but it will at least give you another option to explore. Don't try to get your cables to never touch one another or anything, because you'll never achieve that. Just aim for a smooth routing that minimizes cable friction while still allowing your bars to turn.
