I have the opportunity to get this bike for $400, and was hoping to get some opinions. I do not know much about bikes, I just ride them and have someone who knows what they are doing fix it every once in a while. This is a 2000 model.

It isn't new, it has been ridden but was maintained very well. It is in better shape than the bike I currently ride which was bought new in 2003. Anyone have an opinion on where the price should be?

It would help if you had a picture and a brand/model number.

Trek 8000 had a street price of approximately $1,000 when it was new. The used price is about right at $400 or less. So, as long as it fits, go for it. You'll get much more bike than buying a new one for that price.
