I'm done moving. Who wants to go for a ride? Don't be shy. I have to go back to work Tuesday, so let's ride before then.

I'm looking at an apartment at 10:30 in East Cambridge, and have to ride to Peabody around 2, but any other time tommorow I'm up for something. Where in Boston did you end up moving?

jrowe

E Concord and Washington.

Nice neighborhood! My company has a client at 57 E Concord, so I'm down there pretty regularly. Tell me a time, either before 10 or after 11, and where to meet, and I'm there.

I'm liking the neighborhood so far. My office is in East Cambridge.

Let's meet after 11, say 11:15, if that gives you enough time. Why don't you pick the location, though, since you'll be deciding on the ride. I've got a map, so just give me an intersection.

Hmmmm.....

Lets say we'll meet at Copley Square, across from Trinity Place (the street behind the Hancock Tower) @ 11:15.

I'd say we should ride as far away from the Charles as possible.

Okay, see you at Copley Sq at 11:15. I'll be on a celeste bianchi.

Any other Boston folk up for an hour or two around town?

The tourists. The evil, evil tourists.

I just got back from CMWC and I've gotten like 5 hours of sleep the last 3 days (and yet did NOT really party that much--I can't figure out if that's nice and moderate or just lame of me).

However, if I can get my ass out of bed, I may go for a ride. But don't wait on me.

So, Jeff... did you meet any of the locals this weekend?

jrowe
07-05-05, 11:00 AM
Hey bryan, yeah, I met jacobs and we went on a 20-mile loop through roxbury, JP, and Allston. Nice guy. BT, predictably, failed to get his ass out of bed, but we'll ride at some point. We had beautiful weather, but the roads... the roads here are a laugh. DC has some really crappy roads, but *all* of the roads here are really crappy.

Hmm.. You think so? We repaved a BUNCH just last summer for the DNC (pure coincidence, the mayor sez--yeah right) and they're much nicer than they have been.

The weather looks pretty terrible except for tonight, which I can't do, but maybe Thursday will work out for us...

I might have been exaggerating. I rode on smooth pavement at some point, but the average amount of bumpiness is slightly greater here.

I can ride any evening this week.

jrowe, maybe it's the tubulars doing it to ya...

Well, now if we're talking "average" that's a whole other matter. :D

Me & another guy from Boston (never got his name) were sitting around in the alley on race course on Sunday with some guys from NY who were complaining about how much they hated dumping into that stretch and were sure they were going to flat out. Dude just laughed and said it reminded him of home. Of course lower Manhattan still has some significant chunks of cobblestone street.

In general, though, the city's strategy is literally to defer maintenance except for emergency patches as long as possible, allowing the entire surface to degrade until it can just be completely resurfaced.

chimbly, I was riding a steel frame with clinchers. The roads are lumpy. They're far from unbearable, though. It was just an observation.

Sorry. Just following through on my neverending mission to point out how impractical tubulars are...

Give them a try. I got a flat last week in georgetown at 1:30am and rode home on it. It was awesome being able to ride home on a flat. Try that with a clincher.

I would encourage you to start a new thread, because I don't think this subject has ever been discussed before.

Riding on flats might work, but whatev's, it AIN'T GOOD.

That ride was fun despite my hangover.

I'm down for almost any night this week as well. Weather schmeather.

20 miles through Roxbury sounds, well, challenging...are you guys relatively new to Boston?

bostontrevor
07-05-05, 10:04 PM
Nigh on impossible, in fact given that it ain't that long. That's the part about "loop through Roxbury, JP, and Allston."

Mr. JRowe just moved.

It's a touch wet today, but I'd be up for an easy ride this evening, maybe 6-ish.

Welcome to the city Jrowe. Sorry I didn't respond about riding this past weekend. I was up in NH visiting my folks.

Think you might join us for our Thursday night MIT sprinting this week?

speaking of riding on flats... me and trevor had a lot of fun riding on rims, now just how to intergrate this into ally cats...

bostontrevor
07-06-05, 05:07 PM
Yeah, we did. You're looking at the self-proclaimed world champion rim-bike skid champion. Holla!

jrowe

yeah, I'll try to make it to MIT for the racing. Is it off if it's raining?
