Lemond Victoire, more or less new, for $1800. I'm currently riding a Schwinn Super Sport GLX (Reynolds Steel), so a ti frame would definitely be an upgrade. Thoughts? I haven't seen much about the Lemond frame, but ti is good.

The LeMond, (any model) is a good bike. The Victoire retails for between $3300 and $3500. LeMond's are well made and very well spec'd. The Victorie is a Titanium frame with a Satin Brush finish (Beautiful IMO!) with Shimano Ultegra components and Bontrager wheels. $1,800 is a decent deal. For a used bike, figure about half as original cost. If the components are in good shape and the bike has NOT been abused, $1,800 is a good deal!

LeMond bikes generally have a longer top tube. This will create a more stretched out position. If you have a short torso, you will be forced to use a very short stem to get in a similar position compared to other bikes. Also, Lemond measures their bikes center of bottom bracket to CENTER of top tube, as opposed to other bikes center of bb to TOP of top tube. IOW, a 55 cm LeMond will fit like many other (like Cannondale) 56 cm bikes.

I'm 6'0", but have a long torso, and short legs. I ride a 55 cm LeMond (Zurich as a matter of fact!). I would ride a 56 cm Cannondale.

the schwinn is 853 in the front, lesser in the back. it's a bit heavy, but really i'm just trying to rationalize owning a ti bike. i think the geometry on the lemond is great for me, as i'm a short-legged long torsoed freak, myself.
is the victoire the same frame as the tete de course, w/ ultegra instead of dura ace?
oh,and the bike is barely used (1 or 2 rides). my understanding is the shop owner got it for himself, decided not to keep it, and is just trying to get rid of it.

I have recently bought a Victoire, but haven't received it yet! It is the same frame as the Tete de Corse. Differences lie in the components, wheelset, fork.

What year are you looking at? If it's a new as they say, then it's a great deal.

i believe it's new (or maybe a 2001). at this point, i've pretty much resigned myself to keeping the schwinn, simply because even $1800 could be better spent (say, towards rent or a car payment). even though wrench science says my frame's too big, i'm just going to go the upgrade route...i guess... (sigh):(
