Burley question

I know this is a tandem board but since burley is a big tandem builder he goes.

Hello, I recently "ordered" a Burley Fox Hollow. I have never bought from them before but have had great luck with another Eugene builder named CO-Motion. I was with my LBS when he called the order in. The soonest I can get one is mid sept early oct. Does that seem a little long on the wait time? I have also read that Burley was experiencing some financial problems in relation to productivity. Is there anyone out there who has info on BUrley design?

The time quote actually sounds about right based on what the folks who've recently received tandems are citing for order to delivery spans.

As for the financial difficulties, I shared an article from a Oregon newspaper that did a story on Burley's woes back in April. With that in mind, the protracted delivery spans and sometimes late to need specialty parts seems to be consistent with a company trying to sustain production on a cash-basis with vendors who are less likely to extend credit given their tenuous financial position. I seem to recall that at least one Burley dealer was surprised to hear that they no longer were being offered spec. bikes on terms and, instead, were being asked for payment on delivery.

Just my take, no inside info.

That sounds about right and you may want to add a week or two to it. I was quoted 4-6 weeks. Its been 8 weeks now and it was suppose to ship this past friday base on a phone message from Burley. I ordered my Rivizza Tandem on May 3rd. It is also coming incomplete. Burley ran out of disk brakes so the dealer sourced one and is installing it in there shop. Burley also ran out of carbon forks. I have been told that I will ride the bike with a steel fork for a month and then bring the bike back to the dealer for the carbon fork. The fork issue I can maybe understand, but he brake issue I can't. 6" Avid Disk Brakes are very common and are on tons of mountian bikes including a Giant NRS2 that sits in my garage.

My advice is to go for it and get a Burley but make sure you have a good relationship with the dealer as they may have to go out of the way to make it all come togather.

Burley tandems (at least the Tosa and Rivizza) come with a 203mm ~ 8" rear disc, not 6".


The fork issue I can maybe understand, but he brake issue I can't. 6" Avid Disk Brakes are very common and are on tons of mountian bikes including a Giant NRS2 that sits in my garage.

Oops... my bad. 8" Rotors are not as common. Thanks for the correction. ;)

That sounds about right. I ordered a Burley tandem on April 4th and picked it up from the dealer on June 10th.
