Virginia. I think he's talking about Ye Olde Bike Shoppe. Look for the troubadour in USPS colours.

Keith? where is that? Bike Doctor is at Grand & Berry, best in bburg. Spokes & Strings is on Havemayer near S2nd I think, not so hot, attitude issues and they make their own not very nice frames. Open early in the morning though and have decent basics. There is also the used Schwinn cave down on Lorimer by the BBQ, good for getting a beater. Also the Chinese dude on Graham, mainly sells BMXs and what not for kids in the hood, probably the cheapest though.

Some shops have nice service but bad products. Some have real jerks that do a good job, others have jerks that don't do good work. What are you looking to do?
I have issues with the bicycle Dr., NYCbikes, & spokes and strings.

Believe that dude's actually Korean, and he doesn't really do much in the way of repair work, only sales. I hate NYCBikes (aren't they the same thing as Spokes & Strings?); went to the Bicycle Doctor, that place was pretty punk-rock, pretty scruffy. Guy refused to look at my stuck seatpost, but their low-tech appearance boded well for sincerity of work and lower cost. The place on Keith/Metropolitan intrigues, tell us more...
ride over the bridge and hit up habitat or bikeworks

Bicycle habitat can be a busy nightmare, esp. in the summer. I also went in and asked them to swap a seatbolt for me, the younger balding fellow did that for me, charged me three bucks for the bolt and something like 15 for the three minutes of labor. Watch out for those labor charges. Oh yeah, and PS The seatbolt doesn't hold very tightly. Do I want to return to deal with the crowd again, just for a 3-dollar seatbolt? Don't think so.
