I've just begun (several months ago) to do some long rides and lately I've found that my nipples ( I'm a male) have become very sensitive and sore - probably from rubbing against my shirt. I haven't read anything about this condition and wonder if anyone has any suggestions towards solving this problem

try a different fabric jersey or smear some vasaliene on them befor you ride

Catfish is right, however another solution is small bandaids. I used to race off-road Motorcycles and this was a real problem the bandaids worked great.

You can't complain about the variety of subjects we cover on the forums can you?

I read in a mag a month or two back that this happened to a guy and out of desperation he finally found a good use for glueless patches.

Thanks everyone! I thought of bandaids but didn't like them sticking to my hair... Found the solution - moleskin patches used to cover "painful friction points on your feet". they're soft and have self-stick adhesive on one side. I cut out a nipple-sized circle and stick it on. That way no hair to stick to and it works great.

Man, didn't they tell you? You gotta take your nipple rings off before you ride!

Carlh,

I think that the site of moleskin on your nipples must start your significant other giggling. Why not maybe try a training bra?

I find that wearing a sportsbra helps:D

sore nipples are very common in distance running.... lol i looked this topic up because i have really painful nipples after an 8.5 mile run last night.

runners often put tape or band-aids over their nipples. some people find that vaseline helps too.

women runners usually don't have to worry about this because the form-fitting nature of sports bras allow the fabric to move along together with the skin; men on the other hand wear shirts, singlets, jerseys, etc which are more loose-fitting, providing plenty of opportunity for abrasive rubbing. :(

I see this thread has been resurrected from the dead, but I'm thinking that you men really need a "Men's Only" section, so we women can come and browse.

dude, I'm just kidding. I have been running for longer then I have been biking, and I have found that my nipples get sore from chafing. For one thing, ditch the cotton, if you are wearing it. when it gets soaked from your sweat, it gets scratchy. plus, try using some vaseline on those babies when ou go riding. this sort of "lubes" them up so that they don't get chafed.

All good information above.

I have found a solution that is both practical and inexpensive. I use Zinc Oxide paste (40%), usually sold as Diaper Rash Ointment. This can be found everywhere and is very cheap. It is better than Vaseline because it will not stain your clothes. It does not sweat off, but will come off in the laundry. It is a good solution to any chafing problem.

Be a man and suck it up. You will have nice calloused nipples before you know it (smile).

Plain old vaseline works fine.
