Hello Folks,

Just getting back into cycling after a long lay off.. Lived in SE Mich. for next to forever, now in SW VA. in the middle of the mountains.. Nice area until you have to pump a bicyle up and down major hills, no matter where you go..

I raced enduro karts for many years along with Vintage motocross, now have droped the karts after 25 years and I just hit a few vintage motocross races every year.. Want to use cycling to drop pounds, enjoy the ride and and get in better shape for motocross and life in general..

My bike is a bike I bought new sometime in the 80's from a Kawasaki Dealership in Howell, Mi. It might have maybe 50 miles on it at the most, and it's like brand new, with the execption of the stickers falling apart. Its a Schwinn, Super Le Tour I think, again not sure of the year, number on front badge is 2083.. The name that was on the cross bar, has crumbled and fell off over the years sitting.. It has the 4130 CrMo sticker on the bottom of the seat tube, Suntour ARX gear, and a Cateye that tells me how far I went, but it dosen't tell why it took me so long.. I put on new tubes and tires (Bontrager Sport) and retaped the bars the Bontrager kinda feels like the cork stuff..And tuned up the shifting gizmos with " How To's " off the web, and it rides great until I get to big hills..Then I seem to be down on HP, :<)

So I know there are much better bikes out there, but this should get me started and give me a chance to look around, and figure out what I need..

Nice Forum here, thanks for having me..

Frankie

Welcome to the Confederacy, kind suh. :)
You have a lot of options around here. If you are not quite up to climbing some of the mountains around here, we have a few rail trails, too. Great for building you up without killing you at first. Don't know where you are exactly, but two closest to me are The New River Trail, which runs between Galax Va. And Pulaski Va, and the Virginia Creeper Trail, between Damascas and White Top. If you see a big man and a petite cutie riding a Trek T-900 tandem on either, be sure and wave.. it's us!

Hello ramius,

Thanks for the welcome.. I'm located in a little area called White Gate, that is in the mountains off Hwy 42 between Hwy 100 and I-77 freeway..About 15/20 mins north of Pulaski, or 15/20 mins straight up from Pulaski..

So this New River Trail / Va. Creeper Trail, is it paved or is it dirt... Not so sure my road bike will work so well on dirt, but heck, I'll try anything once :) And Creeper Trail, what by chance was that named after, local plant ?

The group of guys that are going to break me in ride out of Pulaski, they meet at the train station on Tue/Thurs.. My guess they have picked out a road that is up hill both ways for my first ride

I can hear them now.. Trust me, you'll have a good time..Rookie !

Tell Goober I said Hi,
Frankie
