View Full Version : Why do you ride?
I know why I ride, now I want to know why you ride. :)
WHY I RIDE, A POEM
I ride to enjoy the clean L.A. air;
I ride to get from here to there.
I ride because it's exciting and new;
I ride because riding is what I do.
Today it is sunny and fair,
so all I can do is say I'll SEE YOU!!!!!!

I ride because I need to. I yearn for the bike after only a few days off of it. The motion, speed, and ease of movement is just addicting for me. Travelling to other cities or locations under my own power is very liberating. I also ride to control my weight and as an economical way to get to work but those are just logical reasons. I ride because I love it.

I know why I ride, now I want to know why you ride. :)
Camaraderie, fitness and for the love of it.

ONE DAY
I know I ride, it's just because
Sometimes I get a little buzz.
A funny bee writes special songs
And tells me hey! that I belong.
It's not a 'bent, a diamond frame
Not all so different but then the same.
We pedal here we pedal there
Sometimes it seems we get nowhere.
But one day when the time is right
I'll ride by sun or else by nite.
I swear before my day has end
I know I'll see my L.A. friend.

I know why I ride, now I want to know why you ride. :)
Usually fitness/exercise/cheap transport, but honestly sometimes just because I can :)

I usually ride rail/trails. I talked to a guy from the next town yesterday(someone I've never met before), and he said that the serenity of the trail is just awesome. I couldn't have put it better myself. I find peace for myself. I battle the demons within me and pedal them out of my system. Soon enough I don't feel myself pedaling at all. It feels probably what a magic carpet ride would feel like. Ah, peace.....
I ride for fitness
I ride to save on gas and car expenses
I ride to help the environment
I ride to brag ;)

[QUOTE=Paul L.]Sunrise saturday,
I was biking the backroads,
lost in the moment.QUOTE]
Oooh! Biking haiku!
For transportation, to save on gas.
For fitness, cardiac recovery.
For stress relief from work.
For fun!
A freestyle haiku to say, "I'll surely see you!"
It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow;
but I'm sure to meet my friend somewhere out there.
With luck, it will be sunny and fair, that day when we meet
somewhere out there.
Smiling, laughing and pedalling we'll be,
as we enjoy the good company.
Wherever it is, and whenever,
we'll have glad hearts as we roll past the scenery.
Rolling happily along the trails on my trike,
I relish the thought of my cyber friend and her bike.
Together we have proven that Stevie Wonder's right
and there can be perfect harmony between a 'bent and an upright.
Why I ride, an outline.

I like to ride for the enjoyment of being outdoors. I enjoy the scenery of the countryside we miss in cars. I don't have a job that allows me to commute to work on a bike.

Fitness, work stress (I bike commute mostly), fun with Ventura Recumbent riders, cheapness (Oh the money I save not driving!).

I ride because I'm FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Aren't we all! I don't know why more people don't take advantage of it. If only they knew . . .
there'd be a lot less stressed and angry people out there.
I prefer being happy-even if it means having bugs in my teeth from :D

I started riding because I remember loving to ride when I was younger, a kid and then my early days of college and I thought it would be a great way to try to lose weight.
Although weight loss is still my primary goal, I am starting to become a real lover of riding just for the sake of riding. I feel so free when I ride and it lifts my spirits when the wind is rushing through my hair (through the vents in my helmet).

I ride for the peace and quiet of the moment. No distractions--just me and the bike! Getting into the "zone", listening to the chain going through the gears, the hum of the tires on the pavement and just "being one" with the bike.

I ride because today at work was just "one of those crummy Mondays!" I left a couple of hours early due to lack of work in the shop. I came home and cranked out 10 of the sweetest miles I have done in a long time. There were 2 really big dogs I had to outride, the swarm of horseflys that attacked me,(only 1 sting though.) and the best part the deer that decided I couldnt go home yet. That ride made the whole rotten day go away! Cant wait for tomorrows work day to be over so I can ride again!!!
Because by butt crack doesn't feel like it's been through a belt sander.
