Just had to share my news ... I have a new 05' road tandem on order from Cannondale and my lbs. Because we are ordering the M/S size ... it may take an extra week or two ... uggh. It is "supposed" to arrive no later than end of July. I sure hope it is much sooner than that.

I watched the owner of my lbs prep this exact tandem last week ... and man is it a beautiful piece of equipment! The frame color is great! The disc brakes are awesome! The overall build quality is magnificant!

I sure hope I/we can get the hang of a tandem ... I sure look forward to the effort. I'll post PICs, etc. as soon as it arrives and is prep'd. :D

Edited to add a stock photo of the bike ... I love it!

We got the same in X/S about 3 weeks ago.It rides and handles great and the brakes actually work.We got lucky-the LBS called,C'dale had it,a friend works there, put it in his car and we had it the next day.

The best part is the wife actually likes it:)

Hey Dan! Wow, you were lucky. My LBS does a LOT of business with Cannondale. He is hoping to get ahold of his main rep there ... to get it in a little more quickly. I'm crossing my fingers!

Oh yeah, I'm really hoping my GF enjoyes it. She has ridden her single for about 600 miles this year for the first time ever. She likes it "okay" ... but she isn't really up for anything more than 25 miles or so. We did a 40 miler last weekend ... only averaged 12.5 ... but she was still somewhat uncomfortable for that distance. I plan on making her comfort "priority" on the tandem ... in hopes that she likes the extra mileage, speed (eventualy), and experience.

Just picked mine up on Saturday.......I'm a bike snob, I admit it....but there is a lot of value in the C'Dale. I rides & handles GREAT, not use to Shimano but, works well also.

I've been taking it easy on the brakes, but we, well I'm the big one in the team. Total team weight
380 lbs.

Really, no complaints....we've logged 70 miles in the two days we've ridden. Swapped saddles after the 1st ride.

So far wheels have stayed true.

All in all the best 2K I've spent.......and the better half and I get to spend time together sans children.

Great info BNA! Yeah, I know what you mean ... I'd love to have the new Colnago President Carbon road bike frame ... it's a beautiful dark maroon!!!!! :D

Well, I'm 170 and my stoker is 120 so we are right at 290lbs. So, we should be good to go also. Yep, the $2k for what you get in the Cannondale is one heck of a deal. Shoot ... the frame alone is WELL worth the $2k!

If you all get any photos on the bike, post em'! I can't wait to get out and ride as soon as it arrives and is ready.

Thanks Pel! I really like the Cannondale Mtn Tandem also ... If I only had the time, $$, storage space ... I'd have SO MANY different bikes! ;)

We purchased a 2004 Cannondale in mid April this year and have about 1200 miles on it. The brakes work great, but we decided to switch to Bontrager Tandem wheels shorty afterwards so we needed to take off the front disk and added Avid shorty 6s. So far the wheels and brakes have been great. Our team weight is ~350. The Bontrager wheels have just under 1000 miles on them.

We also switched to Bontrager Hardcase tires (700 28c), they have about 1100 miles so far. I weighed the bike with a fish type scale and it is in the 33 to 34 pound range now.

BTW it rides great, I have a Specialized Roubaix, a Look KG 361, and a Klein Race. The Cannondale rides as nice as the Roubaix, it doesn't handle as good as a single bike, more like driving a truck than a sports car, but once you're on the road it is great fun! We bought the bike for longer rides so my girlfriend and I could ride together more easily (she rides a Trek 2200) but we found out we enjoy it so much we now have about the same number of miles on it as the single bikes this season.
