I know...old joke. We are in Michigan and have at least five or six ideal biking days each summer. But....hell....who needs ideal. We cyclists LOVE to flout our toughness and our grease.
But retiring to warmer, more riding friendly weather is becoming more important as the years left in my knees roll past. We like to ride sturdy road bikes or zippy tourers. I am on a cheap Raliegh alum tour bike with a comfy suspended fork and seatpost. I had to make a dozen upgrades to make this bike work. Never buy a cheap bike for hard riding.
My wife is awaiting arrival of her new Cannondale CAAD5 R800 Si Feminine Triple. I am shopping Airbornes, probably a Carpe Diem.
We completed our obligatory recumbent summer last year. We're back to the wedgies and couldn't be happier. (See the 'for sale' section if you want a good deal on little-used bents...) Bents are so comfortable...so fast...so slick...so boring. And we couldn't get used to being so close to the ground. Even the 'cool bike' calls we got everyday didn't make it worth the disadvantages. And......I like to be able to see around the 37 cars at most intersections in our city. Great on the knees, though, and seem to be more popular all the time.
Far too much...I know. Wife a nurse.....very handy for spills on the road. She doesn't hand out much sympathy, but knows when you are really hurt. I am a college administrator...which is not much use on the road. Just can't get a flipchart from Nashbar that will fit my rear rack....
Twin sons....both married to fabulous women....one grandson - see my avatar for a small pic of Cameron on HIS bike. I'll end now...on Cameron and our family...the best part of our lives...
