I just got a burley nomad trailer today, after reading a ton of reviews and seeing that many people are happy with them. I towed it home behind the new bike (with gears!) I got too, the used mtb is too big for me really, and too heavy/slow for me to feel good about it. Used mtb's, feh.

But back to the trailer - I just had a few odds and ends in it from the bike shop so not much of a load, but what a joy to ride with! Unless I looked back it was hard to tell it was there, in fact I was reminded it's there when I'd go around a leafy branch in the road but the trailer would clobber it, or the geek-flag would tag a low-hanging tree. It will hold two "banker's boxes" with ease, and still have room for a few things stuffed in the sides and tucked in the pockets. The weight limit is 100 lbs but people writing reviews of it say they exceed that at times and are OK.

The interesting thing was the reaction of drivers, I'd say most stayed a little further away to the right of me, some didn't even do that, but some act like the trailer's radioactive! They'll veer away to the right by an unreasonable amount, and one driver backed back up into a driveway they were getting ready to come out of. It was pretty funny, actually. I should consider putting radioactivity symbols on the side but apparently they're not necessary!

That's not pretty, funny. I'd say it's very funny! Please get that radioactive symbol on the trailer right away so even more hilarity can ensue! Also, I recommend that you wear a hazmat suit while you ride. :)

hah! I did notice the ppl gave me a lot of room when I was using the trailer. I guess a trailer makes the bike look more "vehicular".

Or maybe motorists are just more afraid of scratching their paint?

Yeah, that flag kind of waggles back and forth, it could wiggle over and somehow scratch the paint on their LandRaper or something lol.

YEAH!!!!

I took the trailer to the swapmeet this morning, was able to load it up with 2 "bankers boxes" of stuff, a military HF antenna, plus carry odds and ends like "wet ones" (much appreciated by myself and friends near the end of the day) and my sunscreen, too bad the sunscreen turned out to be my hand lotion instead, wow am I sunburned.

No problems with the trailer, towing almost 100 lbs is some exertion, but it's like the trailer's not even there in the turns, on the streight if the road's bumpy I notice some minor "surging" fore and aft, that's no problem. And I seemed to get a look and a smile from all the other bikers passing by too :-)

I did roughly the same again today!! Went to an eletronics junk sale and came back with approx 100 lbs of goodness. A kid yelled "Laaance Armstrong" at me lol.

Is it one of those trailers that you can put kids in? I bet many drivers don't give a crap about maiming a cyclist, but think twice if there are babies involved.

Yeah, I see Lance hauling his stuff around town all the time. Just kidding of course! I've had more than the usual number of "Go Laaance!!" cheers lately but it seems to be in good fun. Each and every one of those guys probably thinks he just invented that joke. It doesn't occur to them we may have heard it before, huh!

I'm wondering if you got into an accident, like someone hit you, and the paramedics showed up, if they'd stand back and have to wait for hazmat to show up before they treat you if they saw the radiation sign.

Don't worry, I'm not putting rad-hazard signs on the thing!

No, this is a Nomad, not a kid trailer.

I thought the kid calling me Lance was pretty funny, hmm, let's see here, Lance rides a Trek and I'm on a Specialized, Lance is not known for hauling trailers, and Lances goes a LOT faster. Eh, who's keeping track? I replied with "Legs-strong, more like!"
