My cycling buddy and I agreed to buy road bikes in time for spring so I've been shopping around. Last summer I saw a Cannondale Bad Boy on a bicycle rack and began to drool. I don't know how it would hold out for those 100 mile day rides that I have planned for the summer though. I've been communting on mountain bikes for years.
Does anyone have any advise for me? http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/usa/model-1MR6B.html

after months of shopping and research. I'll pass on what I've learned (this forum was one of the places that assisted in my research). Pick your frame material (aluminum, steel, ti) and go from there. Because I plan on doing long rides (centuries, etc) and comfort is a major concern - steel was my choice there. Make sure you find a component group that works for you - based on what you can afford and what level of riding you plan on doing. Then I just tried every bike I could get my hands on. Fit is key, so make sure your LBS has experienced sales people. Ride until you hit one that feels right - hows' that for technical advice. I only had to ride 10 bikes until I found mine, and it was a leftover so I got a good deal to boot. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the advice....
Every time I see that Bad Boy in the shop I drool. I'd love to be able to afford that for a commuter... even the standard bad boy it 2250 Canadian. Such a crime the the cdn dollar is so low.:P
I think I'll take GirlzNGear's advice about the road bike. I feel rather clueless in the shop looking at road bikes... they're so fragile and alien looking. I'm fairly sure I want Carbon forks though.

Ok although I love and ride road bikes, I always loved the Badboy and bought one yesterday for $300 on craigslist.

Had to do a double-take - $CAD is now above parity with the $USD - this thread is loooong in the tooth.
