are there any videos available of old tour de france races? i'd really like to see some with eddy merckx riding. particurally the year he one all 3 jerseys, i'm interested to see how he rode those stages.

Yah, you can get them from World Cycling Productions (http://www.worldcycling.com/merchant.mvc)
they have alot of old races on DVD, including Merckx, Indurain, Lemond etc.
Also have "A Sunday in Hell" one of the best cycling productions ever, Paris Roubaix with Eddy
