Touring - Trempealeau county Wisc.

hey folks,

No time for a lang tour right now but I am getting away occasionally and riding new places. july 5 i loaded up the pick up and headed up river to Tremmpealeau and found a biker heaven. This whole couinty is all about biking lost of low traffic country roads and some mighty big hills.... I am camped in Perrot state park for 8 bucks a night but as big parks go there is allways a noisy area and it seems like i find myself in that area all the time.

did a nice 50 mile riode yesterday and a brisk 25 this morning along with some hiking. If you get close by here check out this area oh by the way this saturday is the annual "catfish 50" bike race

If you ask the folks at the Trempealeau County Tourism Council reeeaaalll nice, they'll send you a FREE booklet called "Trempealeau County, Wisconsin Bicycle Loops"; this booklet has 14 rides mapped out, with information on stores, restaurants, lodging and TRAIL STEWARDS for each ride. And if that wasn't cool enough, the artwork in this booklet was drawn by local grade school children !

Boy, do I love riding my bicycle in Wisconsin !!

Geeze you rode right through my town then i livejust out side of De Soto half way between La Crosse and Prairie Du Chien.. If anyone else is headed that way look me up

There is a ride in the spring called the "Hip Breaker" Legend says a guy climbing "Killer Hill" came to a stop at the steepest point and couldn't get out of his toe clips tipping over and breaking his hip. They tout the hill as the toughest hill you'll ever climb. I have done the ride twice. I have to say I have never encountered a tougher hill. Not real long but very steep. Beautiful country! Worth the trip.

I =stayed= in De Soto at that campground just north of town. Had a burger and sheltered from a brief rain storm in a bar in town that afternoon. Rode from north to south and had a southern headwind the whole trip.

wow YOu must have been at the Bright Spot the local eating place. The wind sometimes blows north and some times south

Yes I rode that route one day and understand why it is called hip breaker! on this catfish 50 ride i got in on there was a hill on Trout run road that must have been almost 2 miles long and parts of it was 13%
