General Cycling Discussion - First double century

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Completed my first double century yesterday, Midsummer Nightmare - 200 (209.5 actual, the guy I was riding with went off the course for a "more scenic route") miles. Approximately 4500 feet of climbing, most of which were done on a 13 mile grade. The furthest I have went on a bike before this was 100 miles. Ride stats - 11.5 hours on the bike, 13 hours on the course - 18.2 MPH avg. - one flat. It was all done on an 44X16 single speed cyclocross bike. The guys that heckled me at the start I finished ahead of. Oh, and yes it hurt.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Impressive time!

Awsome - I'm not sure if this is your first or not, but drink plenty of fluids. I probably over did it at first (pee'd 4 times the first 80 miles), the whole ride I consumed 4 camel backs full and 5 water bottles plus what I drank at the food stops but felt great the rest of the ride - other than 90 degree heat and sore legs.

I'm not sure I could average 18.2 mph doing a century. But a double century. WOW!
