Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Got a private message welcoming me and inviting men to post an intro here.

I must warn you, I have a little bit of a "dry" sense of humor. If it sounds like I might be joking, I probably am.

Well, I'm 30, male, married to a woman who doesn't ride (I'm trying to convert her), no kids (more bike money). Just moved from Cheyenne, WY to the St Louis area.

I was really into mnt biking. I moved here to St Louis and a combination of things are keeping me away from it. Traffic, occupational demands, and the crowdedness of local mnt bike trails. I'm looking to make it a once-a-month ordeal.

Also into commuting. I use my road bike for that. Just rebuilt it(around 21 pounds). I like the road bike geometry, but want more durability. So, I had to build it up to my liking.

Anyone have any advice for commuting at night? I am currently working mid-shift and am getting ready to night-commute. I'll post it in the commute thread.

Other than that, feel free to drop me a line. I'm somewhat proficient in bike mechanics and consider myself quite the mnt biker(not the greatest, but I've learned a thing or two).

Hey Danr, welcome to the forums.

You along with your dry wit should fit in fine around here!

There are a lot of commuters with more advice than you'll ever want here. I'm not a commuter, yet! I keep putting it off, waiting for cooler weather!

Good Luck & Welcome again,

Welcome to the forum Dan.

Can't say I'm a commuter. Maybe some day, but not yet. It's only 3.5 miles to work though.

Welcome, Dan...

Just got here myself a few days ago. Very active, intriguing and challenging forum.......Never did mtn biking.....road, a little commute, a little tour. I could never get used to those straight bars.

The secret to travel at night is LIGHT.....LOTS of light. Front...rear....reflectors....reflective clothing. And a lot of attentiveness. If you are coming home from work, don't ride if you are really pooped. You need alertness.

Other than dark....the traffic can be no worse than flying down a mountain with ruts and rocks and an occasional tree to jump into your path. The cars have rules they are supposed to obey....and you can be pretty insistent most of the time. Nature has no rules. You'll do great in the city/suburb. Get a good road bike so you are higher.....and take over the road....carefully, of course.
