Must say I think Adidas did a great job. Have always liked the Kazakh flag, and now we know it works exceptionally well- and is very distinctive- as a kit. Can't recall how their World's kit is different, but I don't think it was quite this robust.

I lived in Almaty in 97-98 and know that the Kazakhs must be hugely thrilled to see the sky blue and gold in the peleton.

Why was he wearing that instead of the pink of T-Mobile?

Because Vino is the National Champion of Kazakhstan. In addition to the yellow, green, white, and polka dot jerseys, there are distinctive jerseys for national and world champions.

I really do like the threads he's wearing. Plus, it makes him easier to spot. :)

I think I heard Phil say last night that the national champions are, by rule, to wear their country's colours, same as they made Lance don the Mailliot Jaune the other day. They risk a DQ if they don't wear them.

edit: Also, there are two catagories, Road and TT. If you are the road champion but not the TT champion, you don't wear your colours in any of the TT's, and vice versa. Vino happens to be road and TT champion.

Glad to see Vino wearing his helmet correctly. Usually he has his entire forehead showing.

I saw a Chevy Cavalier painted that blue yesterday with a big arse wing and then yellow accents on the trim. I thought the guy was a flaming homo (not that there is anything wrong with that) but I now realize he must have been the Kazakhstan national bling bling champ. :roflmao: The stock wheels really set that car off too. :D
