Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - can't get away from these stupid bikes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

so I finally quit the browser so I can get some work done at 4pm on a friday and guess what...

the first graphic I come across is this stupid singlespeed. check it out — I deleted some info that might identify the manufacturer and get me in trouble.

I like the track dropouts and water bottle mounts. Fork= yuck.

What if you put some drop handlebars on there and a saddle that would allow you to sit more forward on it. That might be a little fun.

Whats so wrong about it? Its a chopper. I saw a guy boating around with one the other day on Houston St.

there's this old biker looking dude in my neighborhood, probably in his 50s... long ponytail, leather vest, handlebar mustache... he rides around on a chopper bike. it's awesome

I actually saw a dude riding one of these in my neighborhood. He looked really uncomfortable and every time one of his knees reached the bottom of the stroke he made a kind of wincing in pain look on his face.

I love the sharks teeth though. I used to have a rowboat with jaws like that painted on the bow.

I rode a townie once, it's pretty comfy, but the bike is heavy, the wheels are a couple of inches thick, but besides that it definately is a comfortable ride.

Townies were origionally made for people with lower back problems, because of the "flat-foot" pedaling that it involves it's good on backs.

edit: Slodo - maybe the guy just regularly had bad aches, or maybe the bike wasn't the right size for him?

I work in a bike shop which caters to the general public....we sell alot of cruisers and choppers. Bianchi Rollo....schwinn stingray, nerve choppers...really they are kinda fun.
I rode a Schwinn panther limited edition all black bike *1999 issue i think...It was one of my favorite bikes, until my pista came into my life (i sold the panther to make room

oh nothing is wrong with this bike in specific - just that I had bikes in the head all day yesterday (planning 2 fixed wheel builds, maybe 3) and when I tried to finally sit down and do some work the first product on my layout is a not only a bike, but a singlespeed. I guess I wasn't clear on the irony.

I think this is him.

They are pretty fun and easy to ride but forget about riding up a hill on one.

Here on the lakefront in Chicago I saw a "gang" of tattooed hipsters riding the choppers. I was far from scared by them, but they did look ridiculous as they had their sunglasses on trying to look all cool. It's almost as bad as all these people on fixies. ;)

I can't stop laughing every time I see a guy on a brand new Bianchi Pista with a U lock in his belt. I see them get to the red light at an intersection and put a foot down. . .hmmmmm

hey, Itrackstand(ish), but it's FAR from smooth. Sometimes I would be better putting my feet down.

I have no problem with people getting into cycling. That is a good thing. Even if they are doing it for trendy reasons. Hopefully they will like it enough to stick with it once the "cool" factor fades. But I do like to make fun of hipsters! :D
