General Cycling Discussion - The Landrider?

I know it's an informercial bicycle, but would you say it's a good bike?

I'm trying to think of anything good being sold on an infomercial.

The fact that the people who "love" the landrider are unable to cope with "the headache of shifting gears" should tell you something.

Also, more pointless moving parts = more breakage and weight.

It will die a slow painfull death. The parts are not sold at bike shops you won't be able to fix it when things wear out. Just like the Auto-Bike. Bike shops won't want to work on it either.

It's like Deja Vu... that feeling you get as if you've seen that stripper before. :D

That is a bike for someone that is not alert/ brain working. That ad is stupid..." Its like a car with an Automatic Transmission. Too bad the bike is a Huffy. Oh the free upgrade to Shimano is great! LOL ...how much is that thing?

I've had the opportunity to work on a couple of those. My opinion is that it's a piece of poop. Think of a Roadmaster with steel weights sliding on the rear drive-side spokes.

My favorite salespitch on the infomercial,"It has linear pull brakes!!!!!" Wow, that was something 2 decades ago.

Put it this way... campy can very easily make a race bike with a record groupo with an automatic transmission using their electric derailleur. And it'll be a good bike.
You can also take a 1980's hyundai with a manual and convert it to be auto. And it'll still suck.
The landrider's more of the latter.

Come to think of it have we had an Airless Tire ooze back to the surface yet?:lol:

A friend of mine has one. He is one of the best model makers/machinist I've ever worked with - a real craftsman and very bright guy. Some of his friends have state of the art carbon fiber road bikes so he is aware of what the high end bikes are like. Even so, he really likes his Landrider and loves to talk about it. He's about 70 and only rides about 15 miles at a time.

AHAHAHHAAHAHAH I just saw the commercial again.
The best part was when they said, "you sit upright, so you're more visible."
And then they showed a chick on the landrider being doored! She was riding in the door zone like 2 ft away from a parked car, someone opened their door, and she serves like 5 ft out into traffic to avoid it. How on earth is that better visibility? I guess they were saying, you sit upright, so you can see someone opening their door in front of you?
