Finally back on the bike after a 12 yr. hiatus. And it feels good. My first 10-speed ride in the mid-60s was an Austrian J.C.Higgins sold by Sears. Then came a Raleigh Supercourse, then a Raleigh Carlton Competition in 1971, which is still my current ride. In '83 I went crazy and got a Guerciotti SLX w/full pantograph Campy SR gruppo. What a ride! Eye candy! You gotta love vintage Italian steel. Unfortunately, my 'frame angles' no longer worked very well with the Guerc's frame. So it recently found an appreciative new home in Kansas City. Sorry to see it go. Photos here: http://community.webshots.com/user/posttheologian
Wishing all smooth roads and a tail wind!

Welcome back to riding. I'm more or less doing the same thing, getting back on the bike on a much more regular basis after not riding much for the past 9 or 10 years. I've only got a mountain bike at the moment but am shopping for a new road bike. Since you sold the Guerciotti, what are you riding these days?
By the way, I'm just across the river from you in O'Fallon.

My current ride is a 1971 Raleigh Competition. It seems that since I last rode it regularly, the handlebars got lower, and the saddle to bar distance increased ;~)
I'm in the process of acquiring a shorter reach stem with a longer quill. I've found that the break pads don't do the same job they used to. Now I've got to find pads that will work with Universal 68 sidepulls. And then today, the soles of my Sidi shoes cracked and broke apart. Oh well, they were cleated shoes for pedals w/toeclips (about 20 yrs. old). I may have to update things a bit.
