Hello, everyone. I was asked to post an intro, so here you go. :D

I live in the Portland, OR metro area and I'm new to biking. I used to run competitively (nothing world class, but I'd do pretty good in local road races) but after 4 years of inactivity (I got majorly burnt out on running) I gained 30 pounds and my knees wouldn't take the pounding that my additional baggage provided when I tried to run myself back into shape. As a result, at the suggestion of a friend, I bought a road bike. I've ended up enjoying it much more than I thought I would, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what I can do once I get back to a decent level of fitness.

My ride is a 2002 Trek 2300. I bought this because it fit well and I didn't want to find myself in a situation where I was wanting to upgrade right away (read: within two years), especially if I continue to like riding and decide to try my hand at racing once I'm back in shape. Right now, though, racing is a long ways off. I've built up to riding ~2.5 hours a week at my training heart rate with a long ride of ~1 hour, and I'm trying to sensibly build up to 6 - 7 hours / week (about my old running workload, time wise) at heart rate with a long ride of ~2 hours. At that point I'll figure out what I want to do from there.

Anyhow, since I'm new to biking I'm probably going to be mostly lurking on the MBs and trying to learn some more about biking. Once I know something, maybe I'll chime in once in a while. ;)

Greatings Skychief, welcome aboard. Gotta question for ya, did you ever live in the LA area? Your story sounds like a friend of ours who moved up that way.

Thanks for the welcomes. I've never lived outside of OR, dirtbikedude, so you must be thinking of someone else.
