Mountain Biking - Are bike prices different in different areas of the province?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Do you know if bike prices vary from one city to another or are they basicly the same accross the board.
I wonder if it would pay to go to another city to buy a bike or two??

Well it changes from city to city so yeah I assume so. The bigger the city/market the cheaper. But also the bigger the city the harder it would be to get good dh parts for a good price. The diff between vancouver and whistler is almost 20%. Vancouver being cheaper.

yep and aparently the norco in prince george beats the rest of the province by at least 5%, so ya it definently depends on the area. in somwhere like whistler they can charge an arm and a leg simply because the only other option is driving a few hours.

I don't know if/how much prices vary by locale but if you phone around to several bike shops in your area, you can find a wide range in pricing (I recently got a road bike and before I went to my LBS to buy I did a quick phone check and prices varied by $200). I have a LBS I use for almost all of my purchases and they always give me prices that are much lower than anywhere else.
Build a relationship with a LBS you feel comfortable with and you will be good deals.

Thats a national discount. Shops in canada should NEVER charge pst on bikes or bike parts :)

In a perfect world yes, but this doesn't always apply. Living in a resort town can be expensive. I don't deny they NEED to charge 25% more, but I would never be able to ride if I purchased locally.
