Training & Nutrition - Workout on rollers?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Im considering buying a set of rollers to train on when its too hot out or I get home from work too late to get on the road. I know that rollers will do a lot to increase my riding skill, but how good of a workout can I get on them? It seems that without a way to increase the resistance, I wouldnt be able to do much in terms of getting a serious workout in on them.
Thanks for the help.
Anyone? I have a 20% off coupon at SuperGo that expires tomorrow, so Id like to order soon if Im going to :)

Are you dead set on rollers or for trainier would you consider a trainer? I know that the rollers give you a difficulty boost due to balancing, and front rear wheel resistance, but I like trainers.

I've got a Cycle-Ops Magneto and I like it a lot. I'd defintely get a riser block if you go the wind/magnet/fluid trainer route.
Otherwise the rollers from Supergo look to be a lot cheaper then a trainer.

Sure you can increase the resistance .. pedal faster. At first I thought like you, and started using rollers just to help with my balance etc .. which works a treat. But I've started doing workouts .. in fact, I prefer doing workouts on the rollers to the road (except for hills that is). It's just a matter of pedaling faster or harder .. certainly well up over 45 km/hour in my case. Which has had the additional advantage that I'm much more comfortable now at higher speeds while descending etc.
Hope that helps/helped, but as always YMMV.

after doing tempo work on my rollers im beat, and my balance and spin are awsome now. Buy a spinervals video or sumthin, you will get a hell of a workout.

Is there a big difference between the trainers that use magnets and trainers that use fluid? For $69, that trainer looks tempting.
Well, I ordered them, and they came today. I spent about 30 minutes trying to get the hang of them, and managed to get a 15 minute streak of no dabbing or crashing at the end. That was a good feeling.
I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get a good workout on them. Maybe not sprinting, but definitely some tempo workouts. Besides, my weakest thing is always my base, and this will help with that.
