Miyata's splined, triple butted tubing was top grade material and it dates the frame as 1986 or later. It came in different gauges, depending on the application. Miyata produced four basic, lightweight, frame styles: race, fitness, touring and sports. Based on the name, it is probably race or fitness geometry. To my knowledge, the sports frames did not come in splined, triple butted tubiung. The touring frames are readily identified by eyelets on the dropouts, plus bosses for a rack on the seat stays. The race frames had no eyelets on the dropouts. Unfortunately, the fitness frames may or may not eyelets on the dropouts, depending on the model and year. If it does not have eyelets, I would require a set of pictures to tell if it was a race or fitness geometry frame.
