Professional Cycling - What function(s) do the AG2R motos perform in the TdF?

Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Aren't they in charge of carrying the cameramen who capture the images on the ground for all TV broadcasting ? I think they play a role in trafic regulation also. These motos have been part of the tour for decades or since the early days of the tour's TV broadcasting. AG2R sponsors three of these motocycles.

Nope - those are clearly marked France 2/3, etc., and are essentially white. AG2R are blue.

I have come to the conclusion that this is really it. AG2R is a "partner of the Tour", and watching carefully yesterday, they seem to be strictly for people control in the area of the riders. The Gendarmes actually have the authority to control motor traffic, incidents, etc.

There were a lot more yesterday (as usual, I suspect). There was a phalanx of them around the Tour director's car between the starts yesterday.
