Fliers beware of the sub-standard maintenance on the airplanes that you fly on. You won't believe this when you see it. This is an actual crack that was found in the window frame on a DC-9. This could have caused a major in-flight problem.**

**When you fly, choose your airline carefully.**

While we're on the subject, I'm sure a lot of you have seen this before. I've seen it a few times, still enjoy it.

those Quantas ones have been around for ages..I remember years ago, a pilot (I'm an A/C mechanic) was whining about his seat cushion being too hard and proceeded to write up the paperwork for it. I said I'd go have a look. I drove out to the plane (he was watching me), got the seat cushion, tossed it on the ramp and drove back and forth over it about a dozen times. I came back and signed off the paperwork as "Seat cushion fluffed". His jaw hit the ground. He never whined about it again.

Commercial aircraft are supposed to have transponders. We shot down an airliner over the Persian Gulf about 10 years ago because it was on a threatening course and there was a breakdown in IFF.

I was on the tarmac in Denver waiting for a mechanic to board so they could repair a plane that was at my destination and fly it out. Three young fellows got on and we taxied to the runway, the landing gear was creaking and groaning, a female passenger turned to one of the mechanics and said, "will that noise stop when we are in the air?"
The young man replied, "I certainly hope so." It did.
