How many different companies make the parts for the various accessories that you use when you bike?

I'll start.

Bike: schwinn
Jersey: trek
Racing seat: bontrager
Cycling shorts: bontrager
Helmet: Trek
Waterbottle: Wilson
Cycling computer: Cateye
Aerobar: F-19 profile
Cycling shoes: Nike ( I didnt know nike was into cycling they should make road bikes)
Pedals: Shimano
Tires/wheels: IRC

Why should Nike make road bikes? So you can pay $3500 for the "Air Lance" that has 105 components?

My stuff that has logos is all stock. I switched out a crank (Sampson Stratics no logo) and brakes (Shimano RX100), and added a Cannondale seat pack, water bottle, and cage. Adidas shoes, yellow Canari MS 150 jersey, Tinley shorts so old the logo is not readable. I'm getting some PI shorts in the mail though.

And a Cateye Velo 2 mounted to my stem now! Why don't they all do that?

I have my own business. I have 2 stickers on the top tube plus my website on the seat stays.

Actually, I try and take every label that can be removed off. My surly has no decals on it whatsoever. My rims...cxp33, looking at them, no labels at all. Pedals...MKS, they were silver and I wanted them to match the black frame and wheels, so I painted them, now you cant tell what they are. For some reason I dont like the "rolling billboard" alot of bikes have.

For example, I owned a 2004 Cannondale Cross bike....the thing must have had Cannondale decals in TEN different places. The worst part that they were under the clearcoat so there was nothing I could do about it. I eventually sold the bike.

I advertise no one. My bikes are decal-less, cycling attires are plain solids. But if you look very hard, my chain has a bunch of 'sachs' engravings.

I wonder if we have not stumbled upon a fundamental difference between "roadies" and "fixies"? Most "roadies" I know keep their bikes shiny new and will fret if a decal gets torn. "Fixies" will cover decals with stickers, tape, spray paint, etc. Who cares if my LeMond Poprad with full Ultegra looks like a dumpster bike? It still rides real nice.

That's how I am too. If I can hide or remove it, I will. I have NO intention of being a rolling billboard.

That goes for more than just bikes....I HATE clothes that have big labels (wouldn't wear TOMMY if you paid me). The last two vehicles I've owned, I made them take all emblems and ads off that were possible. The guy asks me "you mean the Autoway Toyota plate frame?". I said, "I mean the Autoway Toyota Plate Frame, the "toyota" embleme, the "highlander" emblem, the "v6" emblem on the side, etc.... After he picks up his jaw from the floor, he tells me that's the weirdest request he's ever heard. I said, "unless you plan to pay me for advertising, that's the deal".

My Langster has this huge word SPECIALIZED on it, and the newest bike, a Specialized Transition, has SPECIALIZED all over it, and stupid swoopy things. I'm hoping to get some tape I had years ago, black car "detailing" tape, and cover up the logos, sheesh! And put a couple of those little stickers you get on fruit over the "105 flight deck" nonsense on the 2nd bike's brake levers.

That's pretty hardcore. I can't stand those license plate frames and the dealer stickers. But I've never considered taking off the Toyota or the Camry labels. I did, however, remove the "LE" label, because I see no value in its meaning. What could possibly be so different amongst all the sub models?

My front emblem came off once, and that looked bad until it was replaced.

And of course the real joke is having to pay X times over the value of the clothing because it has someone's name on it.

Yeah.....there are some that can't come off because they design them to really be part of the car body. On this SUV I had to leave the little circle toyota symbols on because they are not stuck on...they are pegged on, so removing them would not only leave an empty circle indention in truck, but holes as well.

My previous car (Infiniti), which I made the same request on - I was forced to leave a strip on the back that had "Infiniti" written on it because it was designed to be a mold right on the body of the car itself.

But....I get what I can taken off.

I am so awesomely hip that I scratched off the name on my birth certificate so that I wouldn't be advertising my family's heritage! I hate being a rolling billboard because, let's face it, people talk and I'd hate for them to think that I was a corporate drone! I make all my clothes, manufacture all my parts (using tools that I made by hand, out of materials I invented, with the molecules from my own dead skin!!!), and only bathe with the soap made from pigs with no names!  yawnnnnn

I guess I don't mind the model of the car being shown, for example my Altima has just those metal letters on the trunk lid. BUT, the "Nissan" emblem is the actual trunk keyhole cover. Bastids!

I saw a Wilier once that had "Wilier" on both sides of the frame in at least 5 places. Jesus Christ!! I guess I got disgusted with it, lost count, and walked away.

No, that's why I don't get why people try so hard to hide it. The time spent caring about what logos are on something and then removing them can be better spent riding the bike.

Motobecane (it's on the frame, and hte logo is on the bars, stem, and seatpost)
aheadset
serfas (tires and saddle)
shimano (brakes)
kool-stop (only if you know it's kool-stop by the red brake pads)
campagnolo (my lovely drivetrain/wheels! :) )
Cinelli (yes I used that tacky stuff that came with the bar-tape...I couldn't find my electrical tape that day)
NiteRider (my headlight, I rarely take it off)
Cateye (taillight, same as above)
Ritchey (pedals)
Cisco Systems (I know...they don't make bike parts, but i have a Cisco Systems water bottle from back when I used to work for them...hey it's a specialized twist-top bottle...it's fricken sweet!...I might have a second one around somewhere too!)

Old Specialized Stumpjumper and new Seven. Decals are very subtle and look great.
Many new bikes have way too many decals, but that's what most want. These are the same people who pay money for tee shirts that give free advertising to billion dollar

Many years ago I was at a tennis tournament in Louisville, Kentucky. One of the players, John Lloyd I think, was sitting in a chair removing the stripes from a pair of Adidas shoes. Thank you all for reminding me what a rolling billboard I've been. I usually try to remove logos from clothing if possible, but the "rolling billboard" has sort of crept up on me.

When I got the bike the stupid shop had slapped their own stupid sticker on it, and I couldn't remove it because they used some kind of superglue crap, the bastards. I was pretty pissed off, but I guess I just put up with it because the only alternative was scratching the paint job.

I reckon if the logo's funky or it's a brand that means something to you, fine. But in most cases, it's not.

Specialized? I don't care.
Cane Creek? I don't care.
Shimano? I don't care.
etc etc etc I almost want to cry when I think of all the crap on my bike.

And to the naysayers, I'm mostly against logos as a matter of principle. If you can't understand how this stuff annoys some people, it only goes to show how saturated society has become with this noise. This is a very important matter of principle for me - I resent being forced to walk around displaying some company's logos.

The only problem is, I do still want the bike to look nice. Any tips or tricks out there people?

I absolutely agree. If some corp. wants to advertise, there's no shortage of venues for them to do so.

I think if you can't get the stickers and logos off, the best thing to do is repaint the bike. At least then you can pick your colors and scheme.

Not if you take time off bikeforums at work to remove the stickers. :D

I don't mind small, discreet logos but the big ones are an eyesore. My bike is in some shade of metallic gray/silver and black and the logos were purple. It looks much better without them.

Cool parts..all the components I put on. The decals are off to make it look 'normal'.
Kids who don't know ask 'custom?' In the knows see past the flat black spraypaint.
All it's gotta do is rock when I pedal it and be there when I go to unlock it.

Most every component is 'unusual' in some way and i've even custom painted parts amd replaced component bolts with black oxide hardened ones.

I have one red Hurret pulley, one red tire? Red bmx pedals and red ball QR tire skewers?
A red seat? and only a red seat tube. Red grips..custom this\that.
Red hockey tape and rubber zip strapped here\there.

Scratched to hell, covered with dirt...hmmm, the drive is freakin' spotless.

Interestings good -custom with an idea as to why a bike needs upgrading.
8-9 spd conversion will not win you a race.
Here's a hint, ride great, practice. Doesn't matter what 'it' looks like, it's the rider. 'They' can gather to check what made you so tight...smile...train more.
And bike 'bling' sucks...weight.
Make it simple, strong. No frills.
Never met a front derailer friction shifter I didn't like..?
One one the downtube, like some cool guy I saw racing..(I dunno, I ride mtb's).

yes, most labels come off.

My fork's labels came off

My chainstay label came off, as well as the framebuilder label (it was mass-produced, so no big whoop).

Pretty much only labels left are the frame labels which are under the paint, so I'm not touching them, and the labels on my wheels, which will stay...they may be a bit much, but I like em!

The rest are silkscreens....too much effort to remove IMO.

I agree some bikes are way overkill with huge logos splashed all over them....that's part of why I don't wear any cycling clothes is it seems all the nice stuff has 2.9 million logos on them....if it covers more than one company (aside from the jerseymaker) it had better been free or paying me to wear it. That's all.

...as for my waterbottle i was payed by them at one time...so it's all good :p
