Hello everyone. I have analyzed my needs, budget and the local availability of various bikes, and, after much research, I have finally narrowed my choices down to the KONA JAKE and the BIANCHI VOLPE.

I think both are equal to the task of navigating urban potholes and running the occasional dirt trail (and maybe half a century if I prepare right), all with relatively more speed than my 15-year old mtb while affording a nice mix of postures and providing a good workout.

I would appreciate hearing from all informed bikers out there, who have an opinion on either or a preference.

Thanks much.

Volpe... the steel frame can't be beat, and weight between the two is right on. I've sold both and the Jake is more race/performance oriented than the Volpe, in that its a more cyclocross specific bike. The Jake is cool and beefy, etc, but it is very stiff... the steel frame of the Volpe has a great ride quality to it. I would however swap the suspension seatpost for a fixed model. Either way though you can't go wrong.

Comes down to steel vs. aluminium. Which do you prefer?

I've got a 2002 Volpe. The steel frame gives a sweet ride.
