Touring - Carolina Tailwinds?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We are considering a supported bike tour of the outter banks...we have heard some very good things about a company called "Carolina Tailwinds"...has any one done a tour with them? Any input on quality of support, hotels etc?
Thanks for any help

I saw a group of these cyclists when I was riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway last week. They had a van pulling a trailer with all their gear in it. I guess this isn't a very helpful reply- but all the cyclists seemed happy (no fighting with the Carolina Tailwind employees!)
good ridin'

Gabe...thanks for the input. We have heard they do a pretty nice job and are planning a 6 day trip on outer banks in September with them...just wanted to see if anyone had been with them before.
Best regards,
Steve in Annapolis

Just FYI -- if you haven't been to the Outer Banks before, it's not the most stimulating place to ride. Basically there is one flat road that runs the length of the islands, 75 miles or more. There is constant wind (usually a cross wind), blowing sand, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, heavy traffic with LOTS of SUVs, campers and boat trailers, and no shade (except for some parts of Roanoke Island). I just got back from a week on the O.B., and after a long debate with myself, left my bike at home. I hope Tailwinds knows some nicer places to ride!

First let me say this response is totally my own...no sales pitch intended.
We just completed our trip with the Carolina Tailwinds group and really cannot say enought good stuff about the couple who have set up the company and run the trips. They did everything imaginable to make sure we had an incredible time...our daily ride lengths where reasonable, but could be challenging, the sag support was unsurpassed, the guest houses they arranged for were fantastic....and the food...well, I cant begin to describe how great it all was. We are looking for another of their tours to do in the spring...
