Advocacy & Safety - amusing possibly dangerous activity observed:

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
so i was driving home this afternoon through the center of the small town i live in, and saw a cyclist:
1. riding on the sidewalk - prohibited by law
2. not wearing a helmet - foolish, particularly in traffic
3. carrying a 2-3 foot long iguana on his shoulder like a parrot - i just wish i'd had my camera with me
so, does anyone here carry around exotic reptiles while riding? i'm just curious, you see.
When I had my blue & gold macaw, she loved to ride on the handlebars. slow neighborhood rides of course, not out in traffic or anything.

No pets--the most outrageous thing I've seen was a cyclist who nearly mowed me over riding on the sidewalk (I was walking) while talking on his cell phone.

a buddy of mine here in DC will sometime travel with his ferret. although it's usually on the way to a party or something. I don't think he necessarily takes her out for a spin on a regular basis, LOL.

Must be something in the water here in DC. I used to have a neighbor of local repute who had fixed a piece of plywood covered with carpet to the front of her bike, where her cat would perch during rides. She even had a helmet for the cat. I can't remember if she rode on sidewalks.

All the time, often I wear my clown costume as well .

speed wasn't such an issue, but the sidewalk he was on fronts several small retail businesses and town hall, all of which have quite a bit of walk-up traffic.
i could easily see him surprising (or being surprised by) an exiting customer - with him, the pedestrian or the unfortunate reptile suddenly ending up in the flow of automobile traffic.
Guy picking up cans on the side of the road while riding with a raccoon on his shoulders!!! I thought it was fake until the thing moved it's head and stared me down!
