I thought some of you might find this useful:
I don't have a bike computer, but I'm often curious about how far I travel on errands and other adventures. I previously used Google Maps, inputting my departure and destination addresses to yield directions and distance. Problem was, Google rarely picked the same route I used. Today on the Lifehacker blog (http://lifehacker.com) I read about this Google Maps application for determining walking distances (http://www.sueandpaul.com/gmapPedometer). While aimed at pedestrians, I figured it would work for bicyclists, too.
Yesterday, a trip to the LBS turned into a quest to find out where, exactly, the bike route ended (the bike route signs unceremoniously ended, so I'm not sure if I found the end or missed a turn). At any rate, I traced my route, turn by turn, on the G Map Pedometer and the result can be viewed here (http://www.sueandpaul.com/gmapPedometer/?centerX=-81.08880043029785¢erY=32.044277920914325&zl=5&polyline=usqbEft%7CmNkExYvUpGhCvEdD_BhFz@bJnBfDtA%7BGhd@%7En@bPlNdEdLFzG%60@%7CFtDbElE%60FdBvl@vMnCu LvSvEfAVp@sDb%5C%7CHbHjHfFbDj%5ChK%60UzG%7DDrV%7DNuDuAbHiAi@c@jAbE%7EA%5BrDaF%7CPxEmPr@sDnCr@lBsKfN% 7CDnAoFUqCdBwIdV%7EIMjDtDFUzG%5DbHaCzDfAxCpCjD%7EChCkB%7CH%7DDhDwCfMeOfk@yJbb@%60d@nMvFfFfI%60Dd%5Bz GfXlIhUvE%60A%60@%7BGre@fA%60OxCfMb@vFwA%7EEdBgFc@wEwFy%5DgDlElB%7CLrBhNaCjO%7BExCoHdBaDfMyT%7DDyOcE iFs@%7BGre@oAvF%7EFtArBj@j@eEk@rDeJoB%7EKmu@%7EC%7DSuN_RdGoIrByJcOiDZkDc@_JmIjAk@iGlIwQ%3F%7BDpC%7BG iCmEkf@aOd%5EwzAjEqCzByJkHeIy@yCzB%7DDb@%7DPeD%3FL%7DD%7Bm@eTob@mMqMmLg%5DmIq@hD_VwFiCtLis@uPcJoI%7D IcA_Fa@Z%7CEvA%60@%3FvEdBr@DgBMfB%7BBeA%5CuEoA%7DA%5DqCiz@iR%7B%5EgJq%5EiJx@eItAa@%3FeBMyBbC_N%7CAsK %5CsDkC%7DA%7EAoJ) .
Pretty neat, I think.
