Triathlon - Aerobars on my Roubaix ?

Tried the search function several times and I can't get it to work?

I have a 2004 Roubaix Elite, and now that I find I definitely enjoy triathlons I plan to install aerobars. It looks like there are many brands, etc to choose from so I was hoping to narrow down the choices through some of your experiences. Any advice or recommendations any of you may have would be greatly appreciated. I also realize I will have to be refitted after installing the aerobars.

I have a Specialized Allez Elite. I have Aerobars put on Friday and have ridden twice. They are profile designs carbon stryke. I have absolutely nothing to compare them to, but like them so far.
I have also read pretty good stuff about Syntace aerobars

Syntace C2. They are probably one of the lightest clip-ons available, and they are very comfortable.

I talked with the LBS today, and he says he has installed many of them without having to do any adjustments? It seems to me that at a minimum, the stem would need to be shortened, and maybe seat moved forward??? Have any of you been able to install aero bars without making any adjustments?

The brand/model they stock is the Profile Design Air Stryke which has spring loaded armrests, so their up and out of the way when not riding in the aero position.

I have also seen good reviews on Profile Jammer GT's, supposedly they just clip on, no adjustments required ..... any opinions on this style?

i put on the vision tech mini clip on aerobars. They are about 6 or 7 inches long. They are short enough that i can get into my aero position without making any adjustments and the position is very comfortable. One thing i noticed is that other clip ons stretched me out too much without making the proper adjustments, and these do not do that.

incstalled profile airstrykes and they lasted about 3 rides before i got rid of them because they stretched me out too much...

...then 2 months ago i put the vision FSA minis on, i love them. totally allow you to get into the aero position with no adjustment. They are a little tiring on long rides > 30 miles because you're resting on your forearsm rather than your elbows, but for sprint and olympic distance tri's they work just right

I had Profile Designs Carbon Air Strykes put on my bike and they were adjusted and fitted to me. if I put a forward seat post on I imagine I'd need to adjust them again.

Did you make any adjustments when you added them? Or just bolt them on and good to go?

I adjusted the aerobars a little bit. Basically just set the arm rests so they were in the right position, and extended the bars so that my riding posture was slightly more forward (took about all of 5 minutes to do). Once you install them and go out for a ride or two you will get a feeling for what position they should be in, and adjusting them is a piece of cake.

My concern with the full length aero bars was being too stretched out as some of the others have mentioned, but it sounds liek you haven't had that problem? Just to make sure i'm looking at the correct model which of these is it?

I honestly never felt too stretched out when using my aerobars. I have them set almost fully out and my back is pretty horizontal -- a nice aero position. My breathing never suffered when using them, and if there is any problem at all, I would say it's because I'm using the bars on a bike with a compact road design which might not be the best(?). That pair in particular you can adjust to whatever length you need, you dont have to worry about whether or not you will get the right fit because you can adjust every aspect.

I just put the knock off version of the airstryke bars that performance bike sells on my allez elite before the last race and I was very happy with them, kinda heavy though(700? grams or so)

After doing a bit more research I think i'm going to go with the Syntace C2's. They seem likely to have the best fit (for me) with the rearward mounted pads, etc, and they are also very light(like a few hundred grams will make much difference at my level?).

Anyway, if any of you others using the Syntace C2's have any advice or tips for me, I appreciate it! I already found the measurement chart for selecting the correct size.

I was at LBS today looking at the Specialized Allez Elite, they said do to the thicker post or bars of this model that you have to go wider that a lot of people like on the aero's. jennings did you have that problem with yours?
