Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I found a bungi cord in perfect condition on the road today. Odd, too, because I had been planning to purchase another bungi cord for some time now. At any rate, while it's not a spectacular treasure, it was free! Got me to wondering what kinds of things people have found along the way while out riding their bikes -- things they brought home.
Anybody got a story?

About 70 Kilometres outside of Burgos. Spain I found a pile of industrial mechanic tools scattered aside the road. I collected a large heap and fastened them to my rear panniers and they must have weighed 7 kilograms! At the first village, I found a machine shop with the doors opened. I shouted to see if anyone was around but the place was empty for lunch. What to do? So I just put the pile of tools on top of the tractor the guy was working on and left on my marry way. I bet the owner of that shop is still scratching his head wondering where all those tools came from.

I posted this sweet find in another forum a couple of days ago. I found it in a public fishing area on the shore of Lake Anna, VA.

I was hanging out on the side of the road waiting for a friend to fix his flat. I saw a black/brown wig in the tall grass so I got a stick and moved the wig. Underneath the wig was a driver's license so I picked it up. When I got home, I looked up the phone number of the name on the license. When I spoke to the license owner, he told me that he had already gotten a replacement license so I could throw that one away. When I asked him about the wig I saw, he started to laugh and kept on laughing for a few seconds, then he just hung up! Weird!
I found a 3/8 Snap-on combination wrench on one ride, and a new girlfriend in another.
I still have the wrench.

I have found rattle snakes that where killed by cars when they came up to the warm road in the evenings on the Paynes Prarie road near Gainesville FLA. I found out that the Skin Shop paid a buck an inch and actually brought one back and got $46. It wasn't too bloated to make into a wallet.
I have also found a swiss army knife, a few wrenches, and one was a snap-on!

I found part of a mobile meth lab that someone ditched on the side of the road.

:roflmao: I love that song! Haven't heard it in ages!
I've found some broken glass, pennies, cig butts, beer bottles, dead things, and a Swiss Army knife (the one with the pen instead of a toothpick - good stuff).

Wow, sounds like someone's party got interrupted.
I have found tools and furniture and clothes (have wondered about that for a while)
lots of dead animals and tires.
about the clothes thing.how is it that people only lose one shoe then a mile or so maybe two here is the other one? It's not like it just blew out of the back of a truck or car, like a pair of pants or a shirt.magazines both good and bad.

Hilarious story! I see wigs in the street all the time, in gutters, in the grass next to the road, on the median, etc. But once, when I was telling a group of people that I see wigs in the street 'all the time'. They challenged me, they said that they had never seen a wig in the street, and that I was lying! I had to defend myself by describing several instances when I'd seen wigs in the street. They thought I was making them up! I found myself in the odd position of having to defend myself against people who thought I don't see wigs in the street.
I think anytime a wig ends up in the street it is bound to cause people to experience absurd situations somehow relating to the wig. Its totally cosmic.

Wrenches, black rubber straps with hooks on the ends, nice bungee cords, road signs. The other day a motorist beat me to a nice 1/2" chrome wrench lying in the gutter. He laughed when he saw me pedaling in reverse on the road to scoop it up. I was 10 seconds too late...what else...mattresses, one time a complete box spring in the bike lane...too many dead critters to count. The other day had to dodge a dead coyote that some municipal workers were busy scraping up. Found some tire levers that had bounced out of a seat bag, a 'tobacco' pipe, a Topeak multi-tool. Bonanza!

The other day I spotted a blue cap lying in the weeds. I slowed and turned around and pulled up to take a closer look. (Almost fell over unclipping on the wrong side of the road.) It was dark blue with a little cartoon demon face on the front, kind of like the DePaul Blue Demons logo. I didn't want it, so I stuck it on the guardrail and continued on. Coming back that same way on the return trip 5 hours later I saw that it had been taken.

I found an amateur topless photo in the gutter a few weeks ago.
Last week on the pavement I found a Sony S2 (one that you wear on your arm) Walkman that has TV/WEATHER/FM/AM it also has timing features. The headphones had been driven over and were toast, but the unit itself only has one small mark on it.
Put it in my pocket and when I got home plugged some headphones in and reprogram it as the batteries has gotten knocked loose and it is good as new.
Cheers,
Dusk

I've picked up a half dozen of those "support our troops" magnets, a like new roll of elecrtical tape, a couple of bungee cords, $.30, a big ol' redneck fleamarket knife, an empty suitcase, and plenty of stuff not worth slowing down for.

Lots of stuff I can't remember. A license plate. Some sunglasses. An opened birthday card but still in the envelope. Probably tossed out after the money was retrieved.
My most recent find was one of those retractable utility knives; it was a stanley, it was not even scratched and the blade was sharp... I should open it up and see if it is stocked with extra blades. My husband says he sees those all the time, but they are usually too busted up to drag home.

What I've been picking up: mostly golf balls. I ride past three nice courses on my rides and can usually find a golf ball a day, and good once Pro V-1 etc. On Monday the country clubs are closed but lots of times they let groups use their courses for outside tournaments, on such days I've found up to 7 golf balls.
Yesterday I found a quarter. And I'll stop for as little as a nickle.

I happened upon a brand new outdoor wicker bench in the trash *?* and went home to snag it with my truck. Some dime store jewelry, and lots of keychains and lighters. Occasionally change is found along the parking spaces where people lose it getting in / out of their cars. Strangely, I will not stop to pick up pennies / small change, but my significant other, will.

I found a GREAT BIG spoon in the road today. It was a little squashed, so I only admired it in situ and moved on.

Not found, but lost:
Today I lost a pair of glasses that I'd kinda sorta put in my jersey pocket. Was riding laps at the park. Looked for 'em along the stretch where I'd heard something drop, but no luck, so gave up and went back to riding. Then, all the way on the other side of the park, there was this very nice guy driving a small SUV holding my glasses out for me. He'd found them, seen me looking, and drove all the way around to give them to me. How nice was that?

I saw the base of an antenna today, not sure if CB, cop/government, or ham, but it was there and I knew what it was. And some other weird thing and what bugs me now is I can't remember what it was, some weird thing that looked like a gas line shutoff wrench.
A baby 'possum next to its road-kill mother. All pink, blind and hairless. Put it in my jersey pocket and brought it to a local wildlife rescue place. Cute little feller.
On the side of the road, i found a really really scratched $1 coin.

Stickers, goat heads, thorns, nails, staples, broken glass, and parts of raidal tires -- all in my tires while fixing flats. No good stuff so far.

Bag of groceries. It wasn't knocked over or tossed out of a car. It was just set by the side of the road, upright and intact.
