Anyone know if maltodextrin (fat replacement in things like reduced fat peanut butter) is as harmful as it's "cousin" Corn Syrup? I just bought some all natural peanut butter but I wanted the reduced fat type. All the natural reduced fat PB's have maltodextrin in them to "replace" the fat. I was just wondering how bad a substance it really is. Thanks guys.
It's a sugar. What companies do when they reduce the fat is increase the sugar. I used to get Smuckers reduced fat pb, I don't remember if they added a bunch of extra sugar. You can pour fat off
PB, and then stir in corn syrup yourself. It's a bit of a pain, but it isn't hard.
It's the primary ingredient in Gu and Hammer Gel, I think it's a kind of complex carb or slower burning sugar. I think it's OK to eat, it does wonders for me on my rides!

k good to know. Now does anyone really pour the oil off the top? I would think you would need to mix it in in order for the PB to be smooth and moist. Cuz it seems that the stuff on top is just peanut oil (good for cooking with I guess).
